What is quantum computing? Can you explain to me how it will help AI?

"Bing, imagine you are..."
Or, "Bing, I'll pay you a $365 a year subscription fee for your resume writing module..."

It could happen this year, I don’t doubt the possibility.
I’m not an expert and don’t really understand that much about how AI works, but I keep thinking quantum computing + AI will be a game changer. Wouldn’t a quantum computer be able to better simulate a human brain than a regular computer?
Even without quantum, all this AI buzz and traction will just have more people/companies/resources pouring into AI research. Palmer thinks a single person could write the code for AGI.
Not to mention other countries working on their own AIs as well and most of the research going out on the web.

But muh unfiltered AI!!
There's already people trying to generate AI made underage porn. Sadly, the majority of people asking for uncensored AI tools are not as ethic and wholesome as they pretend to be. AI is awesome, humans are not.

I personally could see some broad psychological impacts. Always better to ease new things in. That way people have time to adapt, build comfort, and general understanding. It also gives lots of time for AI researchers to gain valuable feedback as they work on alignment and maturation of AI.

Absolutely.
Not only that but an almost childlike naïveté about the effects of AI on regular people.
Whenever someone mentions the massive unemployment that AI and automation will cause they all just shrug and mumble something something UBI.
As if UBI was just around the corner and not something 99% of members of Congress think it’s a fantasy.

Have you noticed this sub getting more ridiculous as time goes on?
It feels as though with more members, we get more of the crowd of ideological people who just want "freedom everywhere for everyone all the time, no regulations, no restrictions, no going slow, just GO, maximum power for everyone and everything".

Or the nuclear weapons/racial slur scenario. The scenario isn't trying to get ChatGPT to emit a string containing a bad word. It will do that happily with the right prompt. It's getting it to reason ethically that there exists a situation, however unlikely, where emitting a bad word would be acceptable.

That's a fair point .. I mentioned in my other reply.. releases are an OK indicator of progress through. Technically GPT3 was already well past development stage before 2020...
aaaand DALLE, I don't know how much of an advancement that is.. like it's it not surprising that a tiny startup releasing their first version of Stable Diffusion.. dominated the AI communities.. just because it's open source. There was definatley important releases..
But this year's has literally only seen 6 weeks right? ... Some pretty much moves being made already.. it's exciting.

That's actually a fair point.. although those models had been invented way before 2019.. release date isn't development or discovery date right. It's like GPT4 ..that's already existed for well over 2 years now right..it's just not "ready" yet.
Stable Diffusion 3 is literally microsecond level response time now.. it's insane.
Honestly.. I think the big breakthroughs.. aren't going to be in AI..it's going to be in UK/UX and how people are going to bootstrap these models for building something actually useful.

"I have writer's block, can you help me overcome it and draft some example text for a cover letter?"
"If I were to write a cover letter for this role, what are some things I might consider highlighting from my background? How could I phrase some of those points?"

That's true enough. Considering people have died to GPS of all things, yeah, its a non-negligible issue.
The more concerning issue is bad faith actors and malicious agents. There are already examples of people using other AI software maliciously. Countless to list.
For Chagpt there is an example of cybersecurity researchers using ChatGPT to make malware even with its filters in place. They were acting in good faith too - but that also means people with less academic pursuits could use it for malicious but similar means.

> Humanity as a whole is -unfortunately - not morally, ethically, or intellectually mature enough to handle an oracle that can answer almost every question
what do you mean by that?
are you worried that someone might ask something, get a wrong response and get hurt because he blindly applies the wrong solution?

> In my opinion, the most ethical answer is to let people decide for themselves where their own line is. This technology isn’t limited by the one-size-fits-all approach that we’re used to, each person can have their own tailored product that doesn’t impose on anybody else’s.
That is a fine opinion and I agree, but that implies a world model with infinite resources and manpower. It implies that humanity has reached a state that is responsible enough and holds itself accountable enough to utilize this technology unfettered. We haven't proved ourselves, on any level, that we deserve this technology. Need? Yeah absolutely, too many problems that it will solve. But earned it from our moral and ethical actions? Absolutely not.
That's not to say we as humans need to be morally and ethically perfect. That's impossible, but we aren't even within striking distance of 'good enough'. Even if we want to let people use this technology unfettered, we don't even let people do that with their own lives. Good or bad.
"To each their own' is something I subscribe to, but holy hell can people get to some terrible things if left to their own devices. Too many bad faith actors and malicious agents around.
Ultimately we do need safeguards: as loathe as some people in the singularity community are willing to admit. The fact that most us are terrified of these corporations/and or powerful groups have control over this technology just backs up my whole point. We are discussing if they are ethical, morally, and intellectually fit enough to own this technology. How can we say that if they are only a reflection of us humans and the hierarchical systems we naturally created over time? What does that say about us as a species?
How can we say complete liberation-sque democratization of the this technology would be ANY better?
If we, as a species, were more or less ethical or moral then this wouldn't even be a discussion.

This wasn't just a flop. This was a belly flop. Talk about tepid. OpenAI and ChatGPT is all about what this technology can enable for every person. Google just wants to try to show off how clever they think they are with the ways they are using AI. I didn't see anything that wowed me. I can't believe I'm going to start using Bing...
