I think many of the 100million current users will find this so spooky...

I believe it is related the difference is deep learning.
"Character.AI is a new product powered by our own deep learning models, including large language models, built and trained from the ground up with conversation in mind. We think there will be magic in creating and improving all parts of an end-to-end product solution."

Exact numbers aside, I think you’re generally right. The majority of the population either aren’t paying attention, or understand how to leverage its capability.
I wouldn’t say denial, but there are differing opinions of how fast this can get up to speed and transform business and ultimately society as a whole.
A lot of what I see is people (kids?) trying to fuck with it as kids do and make it swear or write porn. Others are perhaps a little more sophisticated in this regard and trying to jailbreak it.
IMO it is an absolute game changer for a small business owner/knowledge worker. Knowing how to leverage the system can easily 10-100x one’s output. I’ve had ideas kicking around for years that I’ve been too busy to flesh out that have been outlined to 60-70% complete by CGPT in less than an hour, theses, articles, emails, all drafted in record time. Even tearing through billable work by blasting away the blank page syndrome. It is a nightmare for my VAs because I just ask CGPT now, it understands me better and it’s output is more accurate and thousands of times faster than waiting days.
It’s mind blowing, it really is.

What models is character.ai using? Is it related to LaMDA at all?

Are you talking about Character.ai, or about the LaMDA family of models made available through the AI Test Kitchen app?

3 limited scenarios? There are heaps, you can also make your own personality that attempts to mimic the person you want it to mimic, you can scroll though the personality list.

It actually was August 4th, 2027.

Why would you want it to prompt you? Are you wanting to make friends with an AI or have it be your boss?
I can't think of a scenario where I want an AI to talk to me unprompted. This excludes things like having an appointment it reminds me of our giving me a morning update on the news as those would be on a schedule that I agreed to.

I don't think the removal of the cockpit will yield little to no performance, especially in the area of stealth. Having a slimmer/inline profile will definitely have stealth benefits, which is one of the major considerations of modern fighters.
That being said, the technology needs to be proven before a plane can be designed around it.

I just got access to the kitchen, and I'm a bit underwhelmed. No free conversation prompts, 3 very limited scenarios with a limited number of consecutive back and forth before getting thrown out and having to start from zero.
I had a conversation with a tennis ball obsessed with dog where almost every answer was something like "I don't know anything about that, but man, dogs are so cool, right?"
I did get it to admit cats were fun to play with too, albeit not as fun as dogs, shortly before being told the conversation was over.
I don't know if you've got access to more open-ended flavors of LaMDA, but for me this was hard to compare favorably to ChatGPT, warts and all.

>Im dumb because the drone part is describing the remote human.
Not at all, we'd just call it an autonomous drone until we come up with a shorter catchier name as they become more common.

when we will stop speaking to the dead and start speaking to
the living.
I can imagine someone creating a sparkling shell program or system sitting on top of the huge dead mass of the ChatGPT system.
With short and medium term memory added, plus maybe some smaller neural networks, we may end up with a more chatty system.

Yep.
I imagine ChatGPT as a probe inserted into the dead body of a genius.
Scientists have found that you can inject questions into the pickled brain, which then responds.
But there is nobody at home.

No, not really. They're already automating the blackhawk helicopter, it seems to be a matter of budgets and priorities.

That is power law growth, exponential growth is ae^bx. Where a and b are constants, e is eulars number and x is the variable.

I have no idea what I’m actually talking about, but I would guess that piloting a helicopter is far more difficult to automate than a plane or jet. Not that they couldn’t do it, but I would imagine this is an easier first step.
