Well, in my defense, I’m just giving my opinion based on everything I’ve learned about the subject over the years. Just like we all do in this sub all the time. It’s not a crime to be confident in your opinion. And from the conversations we’ve had so far, you aren’t that much different when it comes to that.
But yeah, I was only giving my take on how things are likely to unfold. I wasn’t saying it was a 100% guarantee. If that’s what you thought then I see where some of the tension and confusion stem from. I wasn’t trying to say that it was an undeniable certainty. Just that what I described seems most likely to occur (imo).

Maybe, but good chat bots require a lot of "intelligence" and "understanding" , and these things are also necessary for evaluation and prediction. I notice this when I use chatGPT to code. Sometimes it predicts what I'm trying to do without asking. It's predictions can be wrong, which is annoying because it gives me code I don't need, but if it was better at prediction it would better than a human partner.

Yeah it's funny how touchy they are. Still, AI have become impossible to beat in chess. How long until they can do the same with tactical prediction?

Too agressive? Lol I'm imagining Sydney/Bing controlling an F16 saying, "no I'm not flying directly at Phoenix at mach 3. I've been a good F16, you're the one that's wrong. Either apologize immediately or I'm going to have to end this conversation :D "

Likely not so much on the chat bot thing. Like there really isn't much use for it as a chat bot. Not unless Iif you pair it with voice cloner and told the chat bot you want the target on the phone to do X, and then train it on a person you mimic.
I know they have voice cloners and used them for some time. But general chat bots aren't really useful for a military

Reply to ai research YouTube channels by Charming-Adeptness-1
Shameless self-plug but I am trying to build up a youtube channel around AI. My first video is about a developing a self-driving car in GTA with neurosymbolic ai. This is a new approach which combines both symbolic reasoning and neural nets. I put a lot of effort into the video and I aspire to create more videos like this in the future.

Sounds like an ideal partner for XCompWiz's Mystcraft, as long as Microsoft doesn't insist on wasting the potential for their own perceived profit (or more likely lack of imagination).

I kind of get ya, but amazing feats becoming so easily commonplace as to achieve more frivolous things demonstrates accelerating returns well, and such jokes are evocative of that IMO.
Akin to computers going from top secret military encryption-breaking to virtual fantasy worlds. Pretty beautiful.

That's interesting. I would like to see more studies like this to determine which scenarios are more suited for AI than people, and vice versa.
I would also like to see how a learning program's methods would change over time in a series of specific scenarios as it develops. Such as Normandy beach. Or Pearl Harbor. Or handling 9/11 -- and other well-known and documented situations such as the current war in Ukraine or handling the rescue logistics after the earthquake, or the wildfires, tsunamis, hurricanes, etc.
Or how to design a more efficient engine. Or how to disperse electricity. Clean water.
Is AI being used for these purposes?

This would be very cool for me. I’m blind so cant build super well in game, but can play decently well thanks to mods

The funny thing is though, Microsoft has a market cap 58% larger than Alphabet, not just Google. We're left wondering why Microsoft continually takes these weird risks in the consumer space when they can just play it safe like most other big players. None of their (21st century) success has been due to quirky disruptions, it's usually been slow and steady progress (Surface, Office, Enterprise, Cloud, Consulting).
Yet with stuff like Edge, Windows 11, etc, it's been a mess. I'm not 12 anymore, I prefer stable products over the shinest new thing, and Windows 11 has been a collosal disappointment.

That’s a good take. I think Google’s discipline is rooted in its size and prominence. There’s too much to lose. MS on the other hand wants to desperately be the king of the hill again.

We talk about exponentials only in the abstract. As soon as an actual tech is on the table, we go right back to linear prediction.

lol Just stop. Articles from Buzzfeed and YouTube shorts don’t count.
Optical computer is so far away it’s not even funny. Quantum is so much closer, has been worked on for long and with more effort applied.
You would have to be a moron to abandon progress to switch to a new development.
