Reply to Why are we so stuck on using “AGI” as a useful term when it will be eclipsed by ASI in a relative heartbeat? by veritoast
I feel that when we get AGI,it will take less than a decade to reach ASI because of the implementation, regulations and failure to create new laws around it. Even the world's biggest supercomputer, right now can't be considered that it can emulate the human brain,we don't have AGI yet. When we eventually get the AGI it'll take years to create alternative models and tell it to start producing more copies. All these things take time and money, that's why most people say that ASI will take a while to reach once we have AGI. But we will be getting there soon enough.

Because you take it for granted. Wait until you get older, it will feel like shit being a regular scrub.

Wow, you went through all that and still didn't learn anything. Pretty sad.
I wouldn't brag about it. Keep it to yourself, it's less embarrassing.

Probably immediately after AGI. Almost all ANI today are already superhuman because they have access to way more compute power and training than what a human brain is capable of, you would expect the same pattern to emerge once we have AGI

Dude I've been bullied, insulted and degraded, I've had ideologies try to ruin my life, people have told me to kill myself for traits I was born with. I'm not "privileged" enough to escape that, I got it as bad as anyone else. It would be very convenient if I could just shut up anyone who wants to insult me, but that wouldn't be a good thing. Restricting speech is just not the answer.

Still have to tell it what to discover
It isn't going to figure anything new out all by itself. Especially with no arms or legs

Lol. Good because anyone who “brings up” their IQ probably is lying and had a low one.

They absolutely are, I would just guess that you're privileged enough that it hasn't affected you personally. Try to acquire some empathy, it's a good thing to have.

That was sort of my point. An AI with a high normal IQ but expert knowledge in all that is known will make major discoveries that no human could make taking information from dozens of disciplines to make something new in a way that no human could.

Human brain runs GI and as such if AGI cannot exist then it would mean that the Universe is uncomputable and that our brains run on basically magic we cannot tackle at all. Even in that situation you could get something arbitrarily close to AGI.
>What's your reasoning for thinking ASI might not be able to exist?
I like looking at emergence as phase transitions. Emergence of animal intelligence from lack of it would be a phase transition and emergence of human intelligence from animal intelligence would be another one. It's not guaranteed to work like this but if you look at emergence in other things it seems to work in similar manner. I classify superintelligence as something which would be another transition above us - able to do something that human intelligence fundementally cannot. Idk if there is such thing and as such there is no proof ASI, as I define it, can exist.
