Millions in 2040. Affordable in 2045-50 with life extension technology and cures for many diseases made available within 2030s, (which will also increase lifespan a fraction, as people who would have died early wont.)

It's another reason I think people underestimate the scale and speed with which white collar work will be more or less eliminated. You either adopt AI and layoff as quickly as reasonably possible or you get crushed by your competitor that does. Employees, especially white collar employees, are a massive expense.

Exactly. The AI field seems to be the last of the old Silicon Valley mindset of full-steam head on innovation, consequences be damned. Companies like Google (who have calcified) are too slow to react to these changes, whereas OpenAI, Microsoft, and countless startups have read the writing on the wall.
Adapt and progress, or die.

Why would it happen? All competition wont be doing it so they'd be doing a suicide pact by agreeing to not.

It creates a bubble of seniority among engineers where there will be no juniors to usurp them when they retire/change careers. Once that bubble bursts, companies will be caught with their pants down if AI can't replace them either.

Personal opinion: I think a lot of millionaires and powerful people are worried about AI not because the risk for life, but because the risk that represents to their lives.

For some, probably. Not for most or even many. Can you point to anything in human history that makes you believe that this boon will be distributed evenly to the billions of us? I can't. Immortality will be for the elite.

it's these fucking idiots who are allowed to basically reign free and create spam-bots to rapidly cross-post this shit all over the place.
And then mods see it, know it's misinformation, and then fucking leave it up.
