Well you have to build more houses for that issue, but regga and resource constraints make it so that the supply can’t keep up. We need new building methods and removal of all the constraints towns and cities place on development. It’s not magical. Housing prices go up because of high demand, low supply, and easy money. The only solution is remove the barriers to development and the houses will come and the prices will drop. I think removing foreign landlords might be a good idea too, but if they want to build and sell, let them.

Reply to the obstacles transgenderism is facing bodes badly for the plight of morphological freedom by petermobeter
I think the problem with modern approach to transgenderism is that it's like giving someone a wooden leg and then trying to pretend it's the real thing. Which hopefully the more advanced transhumanism will solve. And the same goes for racism and sexism. So those things can actually become social constructs. Like picking your clothes or car.

In my opinion that part happened already. Except for a few last foci of resistance like wikipedia. Google never gives you more than 400 results per search. And seeing as exact search has been disabled, we effectively lost more than 99% of what once was the internet. Thank god they were forced to use the (real, old, now unavailable to us) internet to train them. At least a little piece of it is saved.
But yeah... Paywalls.

For me the giveaway is the middle school five paragraph format and “in conclusion”
It’s honestly still impressive from a technical standpoint, but you’re not getting a Nobel prize in literature using the standard responses lol.

The sad truth is that in many cases school is effectively day care, and not pure education. Changing the education aspect won't necessarily overhaul how schools work.

No, but maybe AI will chose Kung Fu as the mean to beat us up.

Why would humans need to be problem solving when ai that is multiple times smarter than even the smartest human ever can do it?

Alcubierre metric, unification of GR & QM + making the Casimir effect work on classical scales would probably get you there, maybe. Having more intelligence might help you sus out solutions to problems we can’t solve yet, like the unification of GR & QM… if things like ftl are possible it’ll pop out of whatever unifies those two frame works.

A true AGI would need to learn the world beyond the internet. Which is why we'll need more than LLM's for AGI

the real problem of singularity is that’s all written in javascript and robots wage war on humanity for creating this language.
But on the bright side just ask any machine operating on is the following questions and you will short circuit it:
[] + [] = ? [] + {} = ? {} + [] = ? {} + {} = ? 000123 = 000123 = ? 000800 = 000800 = ?

You put too much faith on your ability to control AI. All I see is bugged software all around.
Just assuming that a god-like intelligence would be benevolent seems like a big roll of the dice.

It's not a very good example.
99% of streamers don't make enough to survive as a single source of income
99% of all revenue of streamers is earned by those in the top .1-.2% of viewership
That's not a job. That's an incredibly lucky and fortunate situation.
There may be different and new things we will be able to do with AI, but 99% of people will never directly benefit financially from it. Not including UBI and profit sharing due to automation which would be indirect. The compensation of UBI will also never exceed current earning potential pre-AGI. Unless we are actually post-scarcity, and the AGI can do everything for us. Early stages of AI rollout, what we are experiencing now, up until full post-scarcity will be dick for just about everyone. People with resources and capital will never willingly share if they don't need human labor.

They didn't get the memo on how to make it interesting and concise using GPT-4.
I don't mind people using AI to write. But nobody wants a wall of text that reads like a fluff piece and doesn't say anything.

Reply to The argument that a computer can't really "understand" things is stupid and completely irrelevant. by hey__bert
I think that the truth is that Humans don't really understand what's inside the black box of a neural network. So saying it can't understand because it's made to guess the next word is childish wishful thinking. It has already shown a myriad of emergent properties and will continue to. But yeah, easier to say that it's the LLM that doesn't understand anything.
