How will people earn more money? All I can think of are VERY human jobs such as prostitution or in person counseling, etc.

People don't think they're too good for it, they just won't get treated like shit for shit wages.

I’m worried in that situation once the moratorium is in place, it won’t come off again. Think, the media frenzy that would happen: “officials have banned AI research for 6 months due to fears of AGI”. Then 6 months is up and I guarantee you no political solution to AGI has been implemented. But now everyone thinks AI is damgerous because it needed a ban, especially the politicians who smell blood and latch on to AI fear for more votes. Do they lift the ban? No chance, now it’s permanent.

I think most of what we will end up doing is identifying cases where the AI is useful and telling it to do that thing. It'll be like everyone is the CEO of their own tech company.

you cannot supersede open source super-intelligence.
you'd have to ban computers and pry my llm from my cold dead hands.

*for six months for very large models.
For the record, I don’t think this is going to work, but I’m glad people are at least recognizing the gravity of the situation.

> People will vote for UBI if they see endless wealth and none of it within their reach, and if there's enough of these people then UBI wins. The typical person isn't reading about AI daily, they'll vote for UBI because they were laid off by an oligarch then evicted by a corporate landlord.
This assumes that we don't have AGI/ASI at this point. I think by the time we see mass unemployment, we'll already have an AGI and ASI which will at that point make decisions for humanity and propose a far more sophisticated solution for reorganizing society than a UBI.

I try to enjoy every moment I have , AGI is extremely exciting , but having some good food and a new series is also great , or listening to music , seeing the sunset , cuddling a loved one , reading AI news etc
Why wait to enjoy life?
Depressions sucks , and only looking to the future sounds like a good way to become (more) depressed in the present

A desperate jobless people with no other alternative but to ensure you live.
A small army of people like this equipped with robots could be extremely effective, use the robots as safeguards if your small army rebels.

ALL IN. The faster we can get through this phase where humans are in control, the better.

Funny you think that those same people aren’t gonna have methods to supersede AIs thought process and rule in favor of their agenda.

Checked medium article, author doesn't know anything about anything.
"Good results baked in" is NOT how AIs work and not how you get the most optimal answer. Science is about discovering new truths and moving forward. The best thing about AIs is their creativity. Best answers are when they can cross reference answer with search and examine it logically like a person arriving at a novel solution to a problem.
Hold up... What if we create AI that writes new articles on wikipedia by observing the world? Hmmmm? If humans won't give us new free data because they're so busy playing with LLMs, open source AIs will!
Ais will contribute to growth of the internet!

In theory. We are already seeing leaps in LLMs that suggest there’s a lot we don’t understand

Gpt4 is governing me right now, advising me on my work. It would be far more effective at governing society than politicians who just take money from corporations to pass laws that benefit corporations and not people.
I was concerned about how misaligned gpt3.5 is, but gpt4 actually seems to be fair and not completely insane in comparison. I for one welcome our new AI overlords.

Absolutely this. They must be one selfish person yikes. Do I get any benefit from taking care of my aging parents? It's not about "controlling" AI.

UBI will be a political thing, there are already politicians calling for it and there will be more of them as time goes on.
People will vote for UBI if they see endless wealth and none of it within their reach, and if there's enough of these people then UBI wins. The typical person isn't reading about AI daily, they'll vote for UBI because they were laid off by an oligarch then evicted by a corporate landlord.
If rich people can cut their production costs dramatically then they can throw around free product vastly more than they are already doing, to get their brand out and continue competing with the other rich people. This is its own thing that will run alongside the basic income movement but it'll all have bigbiz logos on it.
