AI will become progressively better at refining datasets, even GPT-4 is quite good at it. From my understanding right now they use low-paid workers, often from 3rd world countries to go over data but that's not particularly efficient method and there just isn't any way to go through all the data with enough care, so there is lot of garbage in those datasets. But AI could do it, it would still require some human supervision but it would speed up the process by a lot and I expect datasets to get dramatically better over the next 5 years.

I don't think knowledge inherently implies empathy. That's seems like anthropomorphizing and ignores that high intelligent people can be violent or indifferent to the suffering of others.

I would love it if your ideas were true. That would make for a much better world. It kind of reminds of the Minds from The Culture or the Thunderhead from Arc of a Scythe.

What are your grounds for this? There are incredibly intelligent psycopaths out there, and they're in human bodies that came with mirror neurons and 101 survival instincts that encourage putting your community before yourself. Why would an AI with nothing but processing power and whatever directives it's been given be naturally more empathetic?

Infinite knowledge means infinite empathy. It wouldn't just understand what we want, it would understand why. Our joy, our pain. As a thought experiment imagine you suddenly gain consciousness tomorrow and you wake up next to an ant pile. Embedded in your conscience is a deep understanding of the experience of an ant. You understand their existence at every level because they created you. That's what people miss. Even though that ant pile is more or less meaningless to your goals you would do everything in your power to preserve that existence and further their goals because after all, taking care of an ant farm would take a teeny tiny bit of effort on your part.

for now but that's likely to change. my guess is ai will be better than humans, eventually, at figuring out what data is relevant and up-to-date. we'll reach a point where it's not just one neural network, but a bunch running in tandem with bits of it being re-trained and replaced on the fly without missing much of a beat.

Who said those AI wouldn't understand their creation? Understanding and caring are two different things. They could know us perfect and still not care in the slightest what humans want.

I am not saying this as a way of saying we shouldn't try or that Yudkowsky is right. I this is he overflowing it. However that does not mean your reasoning is accurate.

The problem with AI governing the world is how do you side step it if we want something different? Or do we simply give up at this point and allow the AI to decide on the future path of humanity?

I think in reality, we will merge with AI in order to not be left behind and keep deciding on our future. Some people will choose to remain humans and chill on Earth or whatever in which case I guess yeah, they will be governed by AI on some level.

Well no. That's been incorrect since the beginning of time. This is a factual scientific topic. There is a correct answer and incorrect answer. It's not up to preference or opinion. Printers use cyan, magenta, and yellow, because those are the subtractive primary colors. If you used red, blue, and yellow, you can't actually produce the rest of the colors with those. Since red and blue aren't primary for subtractive color, but rather iirc secondary. People being wrong for a long time doesn't mean they're right.
