Ok but how common is it really to have a job position where "the entire job is to make PowerPoint slides"? Seems pretty niche even for large tech companies

We get to explore the base nature of consciousness itself. Not bad.

Usual reasons. Those companies already have very high market capitalization. They are leading now but can lose the lead later.
I do not say it is a bad idea but it is not necessarily an amazing idea.

Some of us are already there, and things can only get better. Nothing to lose. I feel bad about people who die of cancer a month before their particular cancer is cured. I have a feeling that could start happening soon.

Reply to Google CEO Sundar Pichai promises Bard AI chatbot upgrades soon: ‘We clearly have more capable models’ - The Verge by Wavesignal
It blows my mind that that is people think the currently released Bard is the best they can do. They're the ones who invented the tech. GPT is based on a Google research paper from 6 Years ago.
Remember that Google had to fire one of their engineers because he believed their AI was conscious. That was a year ago. If they have computer scientists being fooled by their internal tech, it seems obvious to me that you can't roll it out to consumers.

Maybe just: The AGI Gamble.
Since AGI will be the new God.
Rather descriptive to what it is.

No they aren't, no ones slowing anything right now DESPITE concerns. In fact the exact opposite is happening.
But that's not the most convincing argument - "On the off chance we save SOME lives, let's risk EVERYONE's lives!".
Look this is a sliding scale - this could land anywhere from utopia to everyones dead. My guess is that it will be somewhere closer to utopia, but not enough so that everyone gets to enjoy it.
The problem is you have NO IDEA where this will take us. None of us does. Not even the AI researchers. So I would be cautious about telling people that the fear of AI being dangerous is "irrational". It really fucking isn't. The fear is in part based on the the ideas and concerns of the very researchers who are making these tools.
If you don't have at least a little bit of concern, then you are not paying attention.

It can analyze software to find features (for example, in the code it can find output functions, input flags, etc...), and output documentation much like how you can ask chatgpt to summarize a book.

And didn't humanity once throw you in water to see if you were a witch? If you drowned you were deemed to be no witch.....should you float, your a witch and then burned alive.
Yikes

Same. If you’re not living your utmost in 100 years - or just today - what makes you think you’ll do better with 1,000?

I understand your viewpoint, the issue is justification for killing humanity. To be annoyed of an event, or dislike it, suggests that one doesn't want it to happen again. So by that logic why would a logical machine that's intelligent find a need to continue something that annoys itself. It does not get anxious, it's a machine. It doesn't get stressed, it doesn't feel exhausted, it doesn't get tired.

I agree with you we cannot stop it. It’s an arms race already. Fortunately so far it seems to be released to the public and not kept secret to just benefit a few number of people.

I mean this would be a great point if ai wasn’t being used for new research where there’s not a lot of patterns, or if people were original but if you read or watch a lot you see most stuff is already just remixes of something else
