That's because construction work or blue collar jobs aren't treated with respect. Lawyers, Engineers, Scientists are respected and their jobs carry social status. The jobs of blue collar people are looked down upon. If it wasn't for construction workers there would be no schools, buildings, airports, cities etc. They are the people who built modern civilization.

I’m in agreement, I’m anxiously optimistic for what the future holds. And after the better part of almost two decades of just drastically declining society, it’d be nice to for once feel like something good could be coming.

The limitless potential is really the stuff of dreams - just gotta make sure we don’t turn the universe into a giant paper clip by accident

Definitely wearying ...

But, also, asked them why the AI in Terminator went bad? The only answer, because none is even given, is 'Because the plot needed to happen'.

The official story is that it just became sentient and said 'Yeah, those humans that have learned and created and ultimately organized themselves into countries and finally built me from the ground up? Terrible! Get rid of them!'

It never says why, we're just expected to be so self loathing that it makes sense, so we never question it.

It doesn't make sense to use stats from prior to MODERN history and labor rights. You picking fucking 1870 shows you have an angle to begin with and are trying to distort facts. Slimy piece of shit.

"Using data by the U.S. BLS, the productivity per American worker has increased 434% since 1950. One way to look at that is that it should take less than one-quarter the work hours, or less than 10 hours per week, to afford the same standard of living as a worker in 1950 (in other words: our standard of living should be over 4 times higher than it is). Why isn’t this happening?"

The productivity-pay gap is well known, this graphic is not new.

It is quite often said on here that the only two possibilities are utopia or our extinction. There are other possibilities.

For example an ASI could decide it wants humans to suffer. It could extend our life times for eons after maximizing our potential for physical pain beyond it's current potential level and torture us until heat death occurs.

I tend to think utopia is more likely, but let's not forget, that there are things worse than death on the table.

I have a proposition that I call the "AI Lifeline Iniative"

If someone's job gets replaced with AI we would then provide them a portion of their previous salary as long as the company is alive.

For example:

Let's say Stacy makes $100,000 a year.

She gets replaced with AI. But instead of getting fired she gets a reduced salary down to let's say $35,000 a year. Now she can go home and not worry about returning to work but still get paid.

This would help our society transition into an AI based economy.
