Sure, we'll get right on that, after you've surrendered to the Hague and had your trial for the war crime of aggression.

I have a 10 and 9 year old. One is good at writing but is that something that will matter in a future job market, five years ago I would have said unequivocally "yes". Now it may be irrelevant. Do you want your kid's to be a lawyer or doctor anymore? Or is that just setting them up for displacement?

It should be able to switch from doing taxes, browsing the web, and playing valorant within minutes just like a human can do. That’s not possible with UI path etc.
Sure in theory you can find/write an API for every task that you want it to do but for me that’s not what an AGI is

Also dolphins. They have a communication called echo location that seems to be pretty complex. Also dolphins do things like masturbate and have sex for pleasure. They also use puffer fish to get high.

Yeah, that's the alternative. And such people will probably win because governments are so useless.
However, I suspect the US government will just forcibly take over OpenAI at some point on the grounds of National Security. They may be useless, but they're good at taking things over.
The same option probably won't exist for the UK government though. Which is why they'd be better joining the EU again and trying something within that union. Of course, with the EU buying out a decent existing company to get themselves started, as I also suggested.
Or the EU could just fund many different companies and then take over the one that wins out, the US-style plan. To ask the UK try to do this model alone dramatically reduces their funding, company pool and odds of them being successful.

Have you tried letting ChatGPT comment your code. I don't really make comments anymore because it can summarize what the code does more concisely and type it quicker than I can. I haven't tried it with anything terribly complex but it's already a huge time saver there.

Who's values are more important, yours or SV:s? Who decides which humans values are the best to align towards?
Is it my values? What if my values are detrimental to everyone else's wellbeing?
There is no way we can make everyone happy. Do we try to make as many people as possible happy? When is it justified to align an AI to the detriment of some? At what %?

Why even respond? What a waste of space. Governments often just break under pressure. You live in a fantasy bubble, child.
"Hm, the government is doing badly now and when under pressure in the past, but under real pressure, im sure they'll do fine!"
You have to be a basement dwelling NEET to have this level of lack of understanding. holy shit.

I actually think this is a pretty good idea. We need to keep in mind that there won't be one "all powerful" AI incumbent for a long time. There's too much ground to cover and too many niche use cases for one system to truly dominate. Maybe if we see an actual AGI, but that's still quite a ways away.

But I think that’s at least in part the point of the suggested pause. Not that I necessarily agree with it - but it’s likely we have not got a plan that will be ready in time.

Governments are only as useless as the voting bloc backing them, at least in democracies. Brexit happened because the people weren't really thinking about the consequences.

>So AI is going to do for mankind all the things that human beings cannot do for themselves (cure cancer, give us immortality, create limitless energy, etc.), but you think people will have a preference to listen to the inferior advice of "a leader in this field"?
AI told me the other day that the way to fix my car sluggishly starting was to check the battery, starter solenoid, spark plugs AND fuel pump.
When every mechanic knows, it's just the fuel pump. There's knowledge, then there's insider knowledge.

The end goal though is job replacement in order to support human freedom, speed up innovation, technology, medicine, etc.. So whatever the solution is during the pause it will still have to support this transition.

If absolutely means something.
The goal wouldn’t be to make something better than GPT-5 to outcompete it.
The goal would be to have an AI that could be run locally, fine tuned locally and trusted with the data of UK citizens.

No. It's for them to rejoin the EU and probably be even more aligned inside it than they were before. So they're not this pathetic little island trying to take on the likes of the US and China 😂

It's the Simulant Eschaton, the one where the formerly-digital neo-pantheon of godlike entities judges the species who invoked them, and either we are snuffed or rewarded with retirement.
And it all depends on the incantations we choose.
