I could see that as a very real possibility

If insurance companies never turned a profit they would leave the area. That's not what you want. As an individual you can't personally insure your home or car unless you are extremely wealthy. Excessive profits are an issue but profits in general aren't.

Well according to the audio NASA got, it sounds like a horror track.

It's a sailboat, not a schooner.

The worry is since that array isn't latched, it may cause problems when they use the rocket engines.

It would be like the ultimate Iron Maiden concert - except you probably wouldn't be able to get a 'Jupiter Rocks the Solar System!' t-shirt afterward. Bummer.

There's a great write-up somewhere on Reddit from many years ago ( here it is ) about what would happen if you fell into Jupiter. I read it once every couple years, one of my favorite posts.

If a tree falls in a vacuum, does it make a sound? I'd imagine not, so I guess sound doesn't exist at all without the medium to propagate it?

And for the moment, that's all that matters. I'm sure the failure mode will be studied to a fare thee well, but the mission advances. Go Lucy!

Someone should make an ASMR video of actual audio from Mars, but about 7 hours into the video, drop a very faint whisper "what are you doing here?"
mccannr1 t1_j5k0rla wrote
This headline makes it sound like it's a disaster. The array is 98% deployed and working well within mission parameters. It's good to go.

The entire history of human advancement in a nutshell.
We conquered this planet when we got really good at throwing stuff, getting good at throwing stuff in space is the logical next step.

I just used Google, but the first handful of sources claim the same number. Just number crunching basically

How badly the editor wanted to say rates "skyrocketed"?

I have thought about it.
I think it would sound like the 1990s THX audio test.
