made that series feel as if they were saying, "look, this is real cool, we're not your father's Cosmos"

While not technically a documentary, I'd recommend The History of the Universe channel on YouTube. Long form videos that also shine a focus on the scientist who brought us the knowledge. Most videos are more about partical physics but there are some about cosmology, like an entire video about inflation.

Have you ever heard someone talk about how objects with mass warp the fabric of space-time? This has been demonstrated by people taking a bowling ball and placing it in the middle of a sheet being held at all 4 corners. The bowling ball bends or ‘warps’ the sheet (fabric) in a similar way that mass from planets, stars or black holes warp space around them.
Now imagine that something bends the fabric so much - almost like folding a towel in half - that a point on one end of the fabric comes in contact with a point on the far side of the fabric. Now you can virtually jump from one point in space to another point, covering what would normally be a great distance nearly instantly.
I’ve been drinking and that’s the best I can do 🤣✌️

I don't know where you can still watch it but Netflix used to have this one called "Cosmodrome," focused on Soviet rocket engine design and how they essentially brute-forced a design concept that the Americans considered impossible. Really cool.

NOVA and the BBC have done some great documentaries over the years definitely worth a look, how the universe works is always an interesting watch.

"Our Universe" (with Morgan Freeman) is the one I liked most recently.
It's on Netflix

The updated one with NDT as insufferable as he can be, it's amazing. The CGI, graphics and illustrations really make it all come alive.

For All Mankind, by Al Reinert, came out in 1989 (same name as the excellent fictional series).

Apollo 11 is my favorite NASA documentary, closely followed by 'In the Shadow of the Moon'.

My favorite is probably still Carl Sagan's Cosmos.

Basically, imagine the paper is the fabric of the universe. Now imagine it’s a box, instead of a flat paper. You fold it the exact same way, but because you need to fold the two-dimensional paper in one dimension higher (3D) than the physical medium of paper, you would need to fold the three-dimensional cube in one dimension higher (4D) than the physical medium of space.
Does that make sense?

I am in a weird spot with Starship. I hope it works and recognize the revolution it will bring.
On the other side, I really think this is going to be a lot harder than Elon let on and even small but likely issues are going to significantly set it back. I truly hope I am wrong but it's pretty crazy what they are doing.
In other news Elon probably needs to stop communicating unrealistic time lines.

Throw muller into the mix. Merlin doesn’t exist without him.

They did indeed use the special new concrete mixture that’s much more resistant. It’ll still get damaged obviously but not near as much.

Yes, because there is only one small asteroid in the solar system, no need to look for others.
