ISS is so close to end of life that probably won't happen but NASA must absolutely exclude Russia from any post ISS projects like lunar gateway. JAXA and ESA are reliable partners, we don't owe India anything, China is only interested in ripping as much IP as possible while playing catch up, and Russia is losing spaceflight capability in real time and can't be trusted any more.

At the end of the day every day I put on astrophysics/space/universe documentaries. It's amazing how I can go from stressed, and worried about this or that from work or home, and suddenly I'm thinking about how far 4 light years is, or what the rings of Saturn look like up close, or what it must be like to be in orbit around a supermassive black hole 20 billion times the mass of the sun. My mind fills with wonder, it no longer has room for my daily worries, and I fall asleep. It's the closest thing I have to religious awe.

They are lucky they already have 4+ years of runway, they can afford to loose access to a little more than 5 months of burn at this point (most of the depositors will get some to most of their money out via asset sales, it just might take time to set up the sales). It's going to be the little(er) guys who don't have that sort of runway that might be in real trouble.

Oh, but OP: "People like us who believe in physics know that the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." You live in a gloriously weird universe that isn't even locally real. Keep grasping at the science, the transcendental awe will spark again with something. Everyone experiences a dark night of the soul eventually.

The Bible has a few resources for folks in existential crisis.

Go ahead and downvote if you so desire, but there is a lot found in the teachings that many may find comforting and beneficial- that the vastness of the universe may unnerve- it’s beauty and depth known only to one fully, and for us, basking in the greatness of mystery and discovery.. the depth is beautiful and scary, and uplifting, and makes some perhaps for the slightest better- a fellow to Their neighbor they’ll try- out of their misery of the unknown come strength and acceptance in the admiration of discovery and the unknowns itself.

Faith is a beautiful thing in that it accepts the unknown fully. Makes a decision and finds on that peace. For those upset by the vastness, there is always god. And a book written, a guide to internal betterment and salvation- a peace with accepted creation.

Space is unknown. Do you believe in the vastness? Mind you- perhaps you don’t give it a name, but it very well could love you, waiting for you to name it.
