Nah he is just salty about dominance of india in cricket, he should be the last person to take opinion regarding these lol. He is just repeating that how good cricket was back then when all countries focus on 5 day test matches and then evil india and BCCI made IPL which ruined cricket. That's all he provides.

I’ve thought about it a bit since making that comment.

I think not only was it about rooting for the underdog or similar, it was just that she wasn’t as personable of a player. In her post-playing years you got to see a bit more of her personality, but when she was playing, she kinda came across as that stereotypical eastern-bloc Ivan Drago-type athlete.

That made it easy to dislike her - especially in the Cold War climate during which she played.

These days I don’t think of her that way at all, but at the time, according to my own (potentially faulty) memory, her interviews and the political climate of the day made her seem… cold.

He’s escaping a communist regime country, which when seeking asylum it’s easier to get into American you can say you’re escaping religious\political\violent persecution rather than crossing illegal. (It’s been said that the reason the federal government doesn’t designate the drug cartels terrorist organization because than a flood of “asylum seekers” go the border trying to get in here.) So I think it’s that’s the difference.

Lol why would our allies, all of whom are further away from Cuba (with the notable exception of economic powerhouses like The Bahamas, Cuba, Haiti, and Jamaica) and have smaller economies mean that the embargo does nothing? At worst, it completely prevents goods made by a neighboring advanced economy from entering the country. At best, it increases the cost of acquiring those goods because they have to go through middlemen or simply come from much further away.

The embargo isn't the sole cause of Cuba's economic statua. Arguing that it has had zero impact because Cuba can go elsewhere is asinine dumbassery posing as some sort of "common sense".

I remember absolutely hating her back in the day. I mean, I hated the athlete who seemingly constantly beat whomever I was cheering for, not the person.

She was just frighteningly dominant at times.

So, even as someone who was never her biggest fan, I’m thrilled to hear this news. I hope she has many more happy and cancer-free years ahead of her.
