Use common sense and understand how a snow plow and salt works. They definitely only function to remove built up snow to make it easier for vehicles to pass through under essential travel. It's not possible for them to take the bucket right to the asphalt, and they also risk damaging equipment and the road surface if they try. Plus, as others have already said, salt doesn't work at these low of temps, and what does melt just refreezes into a sheet of ice. It's not feasible for the city to pay out millions of dollars so someone can drive their junky Pontiac G6 for two days as if it were normal driving conditions. Ice is okay to drive on, provided people aren't idiots.

AKA: Damn Jackie, I can't control the weather.

Well considering the below user deleted their account, I thought I’d address one thing they stated, I didn’t create this account just to personally attack you, person. If you look at the create date, you’d notice it was way before this post, so you don’t matter that much, darling. I genuinely hope you got comfort in thinking you did. Some warm fuzzies.

I just want some sidewalks, man. Walking through those big snow piles on the side of the road to cross over some ice is not fun.

They always do a horrible job and have as long as I can remember. You're actually better off if you live outside the city.

This article states:

> The City of Springfield says they have snow plows working 24 hours today to help keep roads clear throughout the city. They are encouraging drivers to remember to space for snowplows.

Frankly, I think that's a lie. I didn't see one city snowplow when I was out driving yesterday, nor on the traffic cameras I looked at last night. There's no evidence of plowing on the roads that I can see, either.

Wow. Nice ad hominem attack. As it so happens I’ve worked in homelessness outreach for many years. I know a bit about what works and what doesn’t and I try to share that and point people in the right direction. If you don’t like it, feel free to scroll on by. But attacking someone from a position of anonymity is shitty. Also, really? You created an account just to attack me personally? You have problems.

Do you literally get on here to go against everything anyone posts? Every post you make is about what someone shouldn’t do. How about you just be thankful there are people who care even a little bit and even have that thought. You can educate without being condescending, which is how you literally always come across.

Truck owner here. And a transplant from frozen icy lands of the north. There are many of us from northern states that have experienced icy road conditions 6 months out of the year back “home”. We developed our driving skills as a necessity to get to work etc. Driving on icy roads are not fun for anyone. Us northerners give as much allowance to others as we can as we know many of you are not used to icy roads. Thus, more likely to make bad decisions when driving on icy roads. We don’t want to hit you and we don’t want you hitting us. To the inexperienced it may seem that we are being careless or even reckless. We know our abilities and know the capabilities of our vehicles. Yes, there are the occasional idiot drivers out there. I’m not talking about them. My experience driving around Springfield yesterday was actually positive. I did not observe drivers being overly careless. When the roads clear up that will change.
