I’m not taking up for the idiot drivers, I’m just saying that in this situation you were both wrong to varying degrees. Would it really have inconvenienced you to let them over? No. Especially considering you needed to get in the left turn lane. They probably ended up getting over behind you after the fact anyway.

I guess what it boils down to is it never hurts to be a defensive driver.

Dude there was a line of cars sitting at the Fremont/Republic light. Basically backed up near the exit of the HH parking lot that they pulled out of (close to Georgia Mac’s).

Are you really trying to tell me that I’m supposed to inconvenience myself to let them in front of me? When they could have just fucking stopped and waited for me to pass?

Did you even read that I said no one was behind me?

I really only posted this here because it kind of ruined my day getting flipped off for no reason. Didn’t expect to come here and hear people take up for the other person 😂

I wasn’t letting that happen because you’re supposed to yield to oncoming traffic, not ride the turning lane and expect to squeeze in front of me.

… and then when I wouldn’t let them cut in…

That’s exactly what happened, based on your post. If you weren’t trying to prove a point, then what were you doing?

I’m not saying the other people were right (they’re not, you’re supposed to pull across and directly into the travel lanes), but intentionally not letting someone in and speed-matching is only escalating the situation. That doesn’t make people learn to be better drivers, and it only increases the likelihood of a confrontation.

Born and raised in Springfield- family still lives there. Don’t do it. I moved and don’t miss it at all. Anytime I go back, it gets worse. My sister 28f lives alone in Springfield (east side aka “safe side”) and has had so many sketchy experiences while I’ve lived in 5 other states - and have never felt unsafe like I do when I visit home. Also the rent to wages is horrible and not sustainable. Healthcare is also backwards there and my family has to go to St. Louis for better care. I can’t think of a single reason to move there.

I forgot to mention that my sister is single and has difficulties dating people who don’t have children already/divorced in Springfield vs more modern cities wait longer to get married/have kids so the dating pool is better.

I work at the Dream Center and we love having volunteers! Crosslines, Ozarks Food Harvest, and Convoy of Hope are some of are biggest partners and would all also be great places. Another great option is getting involved with your neighborhood association (association not HOA!), because they usually work hard to improve the area you live.

I’m pretty familiar with several of the orgs in town, feel free to DM me if you want more info!

I have volunteered with several organizations on that list. I’ve always sent an email saying “I want to volunteer” in the subject line with my basic information and skills in the body. I always call right away as well. Big Brothers Big Sisters was my most recent experience, I boxed up clean clothes for a few hours. I’ve found all sorts of wild adventures just by calling, everything between changing a lightbulb at their office to putting a roof on a house in Ensenada, Mexico. You’re an asset to the community, thank you for considering this!
