Well just having insurance will reduce your bill, because the hospital negotiates with the payer. It’s the people that don’t have insurance and don’t have an insurance company negotiating on their behalf that you should be concerned about.

I've lived in big cities and small towns. Over my last 20 years of living in Springfield it has DEFINITELY gotten worse here in many ways, especially just over the last 10 years. If you are going to live in one of the surrounding towns, that is for the best. It used to be that the north side of Springfield was the "bad part" of town, but now it's even on the southside where I now live. We are looking to get out of here as soon as possible.
**Springfield police chief says gun violence is 'our No. 1 problem'**Dressed in a gray suit as he spoke to City Council in August, Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams broke down various categories of crime. He pointed to decreases in overall crime compared to 2021, including in the categories of burglary and shoplifting. Much of the chief's presentation had a positive tone until he pivoted to an issue that continues to be a major concern for his department."Having said all of that, I am going to point to what continues to be our No. 1 problem: gun violence," Williams said. "The number of shots fired calls continues to go up. Our shots fired calls are already more than we had for all of 2019."
There were 227 shots fired calls in all of 2019. The total spiked to to 337 in 2020, and 294 in 2021. The total for the first two-thirds of 2022 was already at 261.
"Those are not good numbers, and that's the one thing that continues to increase," Williams said. "The amount of gun fire and the amount of folks getting hurt is increasing."
"I was born and raised here, and it wasn't nearly this bad growing up," said Cavin Loderhose, whose brother, Colin Loderhose, was shot and killed this summer confronting a suspected thief inside his store, Anchor Tactical Supply."You would hear about these kinds of things here and there, but not like it has been."Springfield police chief says gun violence is 'our No. 1 problem'

Springfield is also statistically the poorest city in Missouri and tragically has high rates of depression and suicide:

BUT...at least there is a church on just about every corner here. That makes it a lot better, right? I mean most of them are doing the Lord's work in this town, aren't they? It seems like every day I'm seeing teams from 2nd Baptist and James River megachurches out there helping the needy and inspiring hope! Right guys?

Just to clarify while I did state it is a 'minor outpatient procedure' it is still medically necessary and not an elective procedure. The procedure itself has already been approved by insurance. This is solely a side payment they want from me. I even did offer to make payments and was directly told that isn't available and the cash is needed up front. After reading other comments here I honestly believe this practice should be illegal.

Pretty boomer take mate. Not even remotely the same thing, you really don't have a ton of options with how insurance is currently. Regardless of the procedure it's in no way shape or form like owning a car. We could easily turn to socialist medicine which objectively works if we would shed our other corrupt as fuck systems. I even have pretty good insurance through my employer. This absolutely feels like muscling money out of people who need help.

Penmac Staffing may have some IT or office jobs you’d be interested in, and they offer a health insurance plan with no waiting period (it takes like a week to start your plan). They also hire the substitute teachers for SPS and several other local districts. www.penmac.com/benefits

I already explained life threatening conditions and how hospitals treat them in the first response. The OP stated a minor outpatient procedure.

Are you kidding? You can’t really be comparing healthcare to a car. Nobody dies because they couldn’t buy a new car.

As I commented above, they made us pay that estimated amount on my husband’s procedure. It was double the correct amount, and it took months to get the refund.

Cox made us pay what they said we would owe after insurance before my husband’s procedure, and after they filed the insurance it turned out their amount was double the correct amount. We eventually got a refund, but it would have been nice to have that extra money for all those months.

A diversity of choice in what you participate in while already paying the taxes to support that is a problem? I dont understand how anything is held ransom. The taxes are being paid no matter what.
Im trying to give the against argument here a real fair shot, but often it seems peoples main issue boils down to specific religious grievances with it. Assuming there's no religious influence on the homeschooler, what's the issue if they play for the school soccer team?
It just seems deliberately mean spirited and spiteful to try to prevent them from doing so.
The savings to the state and federal budgets by homeschooling seem like a drop in the bucket compared to letting homeschooled kids participate in school activities, extracurriculars, sports, etc.
"Taxpayers spend an average of $15,240 per pupil annually in public schools, plus capital expenditures (National Education Association, 2021). The roughly 3.7 million homeschool students of 2020-21 represented a savings of over $56 billion for taxpayers. This is $56 billion that American taxpayers did not have to spend.c

I appreciate you expounding here. Eh, you #1ed twice but I got you. I did not say that adults of homeschool have no skills. Let's get that right.
#2 Stoked your kids public school. Great. Grand. That what I went through.
#3 Yes I do. Public funds should not be held ransom by folk that CHOOSE not to participate. That's all.

1.You assume adults that homeschool their kids have no skills, but that's a hell of a biased assumption..

My kids go to a public school.

What's with the hostility? Do you have a specific axe to grind about the issue?

I just ran into this!! It’s up the the doctor/clinic. I fought it hard but in the end had to pay. They cancelled the surgery because they thought I wasn’t going to pay. I will say I never had to pay anything up front with Mercy so Cox doing this really irritated me. I spoke with Financial Services, a Patient Rep and no one would assist.
