There’s a weird little park off oak grove just south of cherry. There’s a sign for it, but doesn’t appear to be any parking and it’s behind residential houses. That might be a good one to look into.

Eden is top notch! I’ve fostered for them and adopted from them. They’re very kind and truly care for all cats.

Tell them to send you a bill because you pay nothing without one. That has worked for my wife and I every time. Thats what insurance is for. Once they pay their part, then you can be billed for the rest. They cannot legally charge you for something that they do not know the amount of. My wife and I both worked in healthcare for over 35 years each.
One thing that has caused most of this is the deals that hospitals have made with insurance companies. It is disgusting what hospitals, physicians, laboratories, imaging services, and most other departments get paid by insurance. A physician may charge the insurance company $250 for some procedure. The insurance company only reimburses the physician $8.50 because of the deal made between the insurance company and the hospital or physician group or whoever. Or maybe they pay $3 for that $150 X-ray. That is why everyone in healthcare has to do 10 times the work they used to do because insurance pays almost nothing for services anymore.

My two cats were adopted from two different places - my old cat from CARE and my new kitten from Rescue One. CARE is a shelter/sanctuary, while Rescue One exclusively fosters. But CARE saved my old cat from being euthanized in a kill shelter, so they give second chances to animals who might not otherwise get one, if that interests you.
I had good experiences with both.

I’ve had to prepay for nearly all procedures I’ve had. I’m with Mercy. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

I love rescue one! Such a great organization. I'm sure watching over whiskers is too, but I know R1 is overwhelmed with animals right now. They have nearly 500 in their care last I saw.

My wife just had surgery last month at mercy and we didn’t pay anything upfront. Is this very new or for only select surgeries?

No, checkpoints don’t occur in Springfield anymore. They and Greene County haven’t done them for years. They do enforcement through traffic stops now.
Edit: While still they can still do DUI Checkpoints, I believe MODOT stopped funding these and now fund them through the traffic stop method.

Believe it or not there are some individuals in this world that due to the way we look, color of skin, are inherently not safe around cops.

Last one I saw was about 10 years ago they set up in the southbound lane of West Bypass between Sunshine and FR 156. Took like 45 minutes to get thru to where I lived on the other side.
