Midwest style Chinese is fried chicken covered in a savory or sweet sauce with varying levels of complexity.

So it's fatty, salty, savory, sweet, sometimes spicy. That's pretty much all tasty foods.

You don't care for Midwest style. Own it. It's not for you. That doesn't mean it's bad.

I don't like Oreos. That doesn't mean everyone who does is objectively wrong.

Here is the city of Springfield's officially tracked data. Click on "Violent Crimes" and download the heat map.

Safety is relative to the individual and many people have lived here all their lives and are mostly white. Racism is a very real thing here. As a guess you'll probably be fine, especially on campus and in most places during the day. If you are low income and will need to live on the north side of town your results may vary.

I'm in the field of patient care and my client lives close to Kearney so im there no less than 40 hours a week. Kearney is legitimately scary on occasion, particularly at night.

I ordered that when I came to town just to see. Yes, totally noticed a lack of cashews and the sauce reminded me of Mccormick brown gravy mix. I decided I would give it one more try but debating about that.

Weird, I've been going there about twice a month for years and I've never had any of those issues. I certainly never got chicken with bones there!

Are you talking about Chinese Chef on Campbell next to Burger King? As far as I know they only have one location.

I live in the heart of downtown Springfield and have no idea what this guy is talking about…… I have pets as well and take walks daily and nightly with no issue. Maybe the other commenter had a bad experience or two but it is not at all as bad as they made it out to be. There are not shootings at restaurants and bars every weekend. It’s not running rampant with homeless. There are great people here and the danger they speak of is entirely overblown. Again, I live right in the middle of it and have for years. I thoroughly enjoy the city and people.

“Midwest style” is objectively bad. Fight me.

The only people that like it are people who were born and raised here and view it through the rose-colored lens of nostalgia.

Same goes for Mexican Villa.

My ex was obsessed with this place and would make me go every time we were in town. Honestly it’s fucking trash.

It's not that bad actually. I don't know where you're coming from, but if it's a larger city you're probably going to find it much safer here than where you were.

I work at MSU and a lot of my friends work with international students (or are international themselves.) Check out the Morris Center if you haven't already, they can help a lot and you'll be in good company. Some cool people there. https://map.missouristate.edu/location.aspx?id=30
