Yep, this is exactly why we still use it. You’re right for the average desktop user though. I think the more common intro to Linux distro is probably mint nowadays

Well, good sir, I would recommend having two lined up and brushing up on the Dewey decimal system to keep it all categorized.

That has to be the most cynical thing I’ve heard in ages. Listen to yourself!

The whole objective here is to create a recession. That is how this administration is going to tackle inflation. It's about the only card left to play. You need desperate workers with little cash to drive wages down and thus costs and thus cost of goods.
It would not surprise me if the powers that be in government have gotten in cahoots with the powers that be in industry and said, "Hey, now would be a good time to start trimming some fat from your payrolls."

Hahahaha
Now imagine how slow that would be.
There’s a reason these models are run on distributed clusters. A single query to ChatGPT is likely being processed by multiple GPUs across dozens of machines

Yep, now you only need a hundred thousand dollars more for a GPU cluster with enough VRAM to run inference with it.

Having worked for Philips in the past, I think it's clear they have been in "managed decline" for at least two decades, probably at least three.
They've reduced the breath of what they do, and sold off ever more pieces (NXP, lighting...) ...

I have not yet been able to access it. For a while, it said, "busy try again later". Now the page is just down.

There might be some over-analysis here.
According to other articles Microsoft hired 50000 people during the pandemic, versus the 10000 being terminated. Now I don't know how many of the 50000 were replacements as opposed to new positions, but even the article acknowledges that there has been lots of hiring and this might just be a correction: "...after profligate pandemic hiring sprees..."

I just tested the 2+2=5 thing and it has since been corrected. But that led me down a rabbit hole of trying other tests. I asked it the thing about a plane taking off on a long treadmill that constantly matches the wheel speed of the plane. It got it wrong the first time but when I pressed it on why the treadmill would matter (without telling it my answer), it corrected itself and said it was previously mistaken.
No real point other than kind of interesting.
