I had Hulu running over Xfinity Internet and was pretty happy with it. It was fairly reliable and the price was reasonable, even using their wireless router. I was on autopay so I usually didn't check my bill, but when I did I noticed that Comcast had raised my rates, by a lot. When I asked online the answer from their bot was "Your bill for this month reflected the same rates that were in place last month."

Fortunately FIOS became available in my building, so I signed up. During a trial period when I was carrying both services, Comcast must've gotten word from their ops folks that I had stopped using them because they started texting me offering 50 percent off my service. Once I was satisfied with FIOS, I gathered up my Comcast gear and carried them to one of their local offices. That's the best way to cancel, then it's a fait accompli with no opportunity for "let's make a deal".

Well of course they are. Google knows this game pretty well at this point. They're playing for second intentionally. Let ChatGPT take the lumps for being the first to try and scale and whether they make it or not is irrelevant because Google can take a fair chunk of the market with relative ease. No reason for them to rush in.

I'd be extremely surprised if Google got honestly caught unawares. Perhaps they were surprised by how quickly ChatGPT grew, but I have to imagine they're pretty well positioned to handle this.

But, this is a very promising sign. ChatGPT is one tool and it shows that, if done right, a small company can still put some pressure on the larger companies. Hopefully we see a few more like ChatGPT in the next 4-5 years to add some diversity to the tech markets.

Big oil knows their days are numbered so they’re gonna screw everyone over to maximize profits. They’ve held off the switch to electric for as long as they could and just wanna cash out. They’re not going to pivot to renewables. They’ll blow up the existing companies and then reform once they figure out how to make money in the new economy. The only thing they’ve been working on is how to delay the inevitable.
