The biggest issue is going to be other EVs with a charge port not in the standard Tesla location blocking multiple chargers for Tesla vehicles.

All Tesla vehicles have their charge port on the left rear corner, and because of this Tesla placed the chargers offset from the middle of the parking spaces and used shorter cables that would be able to reach this standard location.

Once things are open to other EVs if you have a car like a Rivian with it's charge port on the front left, they will have to park in one spot and use the charger designed for the parking spot next to them which will block spots that 2 Teslas would use in the past. For something like a F-150 with the charge port closer to the drivers door, they may have to park sideways and block multiple spots to make things work with the shorter cables.

Hopefully when they retrofit the chargers with the new magic adapters they also add longer cables to address this but we'll have to see how things eventually work out.

No, as I said in my original post > right to repair will finally be addressed... for farmers only because of 'identity politics'. They're the 'real Americans' and only 'they deserve it', rest of us are gonna get the shaft once farmers can repair their equipment.

Tesla WANTS their charging to be the standardized mechanism for EVs. They opened up their patents and published all the materials so other manufacturers could use their technology. They invested just as heavily in the Supercharging network as they have their vehicles, and if it became the NA standard, they'd make more money from charging than selling cars.

I agree about monopolization, but i think standardization is important too. having adapters and about 10 different charging "apps" is annoying, and it needs to be standardized. Tesla has the biggest network and most vehicles, so it'd make sense to use that format.

>plug-n-charge

plug-n-charge is not a billing system and will not fix billing system issues.

plug-n-charge is directly analogous to the chip in modern credit cards. scanning the chip is not the payment processor. Visa, MasterCard, square, paypal etc still have to receive the payment data and process it. If you can't get your systems to reliability send payment data it does not matter if its a credit card or virtual chip in the car itself.

what is this 12.5% about?

How is it vendor lock in when your opening up?

locking Tesla out of the funds would do what for the US charging infrastructure?

Changing side mirrors to allow cameras was proposed years ago by many more companies then tesla. You could have filed a public comment on it till 2019 and since they they have just been drafting the actual standards for the rule change.

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2019/10/10/2019-22036/federal-motor-vehicle-safety-standard-no-111-rear-visibility

https://www.reginfo.gov/public/do/eAgendaViewRule?RIN=2127-AM02

Sometime after march 2023 side mirrors will be replaceable with camera.

To summarize my points. Tesla opening up is great for the EV driver.

Tesla opening up is bad for other charging companies. They neither provide a better service, more service or a better experience. The EV funds being directed to the highways makes it even worse as thats where the majority of the charging companies' moneys are likely made.

This is the weirdest fucking comment section I've seen in a while.

This entire subreddit has been a collective circle jerk about how great AI is in terms of art, writing, and coding since all of those fields are over-paid (sure, buddy, artists are making millions living in their mom's basement). Then there's been another circle jerk about Elon Musk being brilliant as well.

Now, apparently, Elon Musk saying the technology they love is something he hates results in not only a barrage of angry down-votes, but also no one really knowing how to feel.

A.I. does pose a risk to civilization, and Elon Musk is still a massive asshole. Two things can be true at the same time. Sadly the bots haven't learned that one yet.
