The original idea was sort of fine. Or at least an honest attempt at fixing an unfixable problem.
For most Twitter users being impersonated isn't really a problem, but for well-known people and organizations it's a major issue. Having a President of the United States twitter account, that twitter has validated as being the real one is a good thing. It means that I can trust that whatever is posted is actually from the POTUS. Same for the Coca-Cola, PETA, The international Commission of the Red Cross and so forth.
It gets ugly when it becomes a sign of having become noteworthy to have it. And when you move a bit down the wellknown scale. There might be more than one who can claim the checkmark for their name. There is apparently an actor called Chris Evans, as well as a radio host. Who gets the mark as being the real Chris Evans?

If section 230 is overturned, FB and any other website on the internet can be held responsible for what their users post. As it currently stands, they're not. It doesn't have anything to do with this change. This change wouldn't protect Facebook from that.

Based on my early days UO experience, I learned that in the Metaverse I'm going to spend hours of my day crafting wooden furniture to decorate the homes of other players with far more gold than me, only to get ganked in the woods by PKers.
I thought the Metaverse was supposed to be an escape from reality.

As a social media manager this is going to utterly fuck my role.
No doubt I’ll have to start thinking of two tier content ideas. One for the ones who pay and expect more high production posts and then ideas for the normies.

Capitalism sucks.
“You know that service that we make tons of money on by just charging for ads? I bet people will pay for it anyway! Then we can make even MORE profit!”

I think Comcast is saying 10g just to counter T-mobiles 5g home internet. With Comcast I was paying $280 for TV and internet. I got T-Mobile and streaming tv for $120 a month now. I would imagine Comcast is getting a lot of similar cancelations.

Yes, I’m familiar with that phrase. What you are seeing on insta polls is garbage in, garbage out. What you are seeing with this scientific poll is the opposite. I literally quoted previous results showing that their polls very closely match reality, because that’s what they do. What they do is data in, data out. Do you understand how that’s different?

Let's not forget you can make chatGPT tell the truth and then gaslight it into saying it is providing fake news. It is extremely good at generating fluff which is also its weakness.

Yeah, you're right. In my head, I thought to include "graphical" and "commercial" because I was aware of MUDs and paid MUDs. I even thought of Meridian, but for some reason my brain decided it was textual.

It's about 20g/kWh in Sweden. But the focus should be to phase out fossil fuels first. Once that is done we can start restoring our climate with co2 capture.

So a foundation that put money towards producing covid vaccines said no vaccines? That sounds absurd. Why would they lobby to get the price higher, if they didn't want them to begin with? And they are giving away free vaccines in developing nations. Bill Gates even called for us to be ready in case a pandemic broke out. This is the first time I've heard your conspiracy theory, since every one else of the nut jobs is screaming that Bill Gates wants to kill us with vaccines. Most conspiracies tell us that Gates wants to control us with the vaccines and wants to force us to take them. Your take is the other way around. Yeah, you need to actually show proof of that, and not just say "Google it".
Musk, honest? Man, you need to actually follow what is going on. Remember how he banned a lot of journalists from Twitter, saying they doxxed him? They didn't! Or the guy that shared his plane information, that he said got him stalked. He didn't come from his plane at that time! Or how he held his dying child in his arms? Well he didn't! Man what an honest guy. But sure, he is smart in some areas. Others? Not at all.
Bill Gates has said that the best way to lower birth raters is to get people better health care, make them richer and to give them clean water. What a terrible way to lower birth rates. Man what a bad guy. You mention oil companies. What incentive does Gates have to lower the population?

Yeah, reading things and then using the information is the most deplorable action any actor can do. Thank god humans are above such disgusting behaviour. Imagine the dystopia we would be living in otherwise.

> Toxic companies are just holding everyone hostage at this point
...How is this them holding anyone hostage? They're offering an additional service for people who want to use their website. It's not required in order to use the website.
Is it dumb? sure. but hostage holding, or price gouging for more money? Absolutely not...
