I remember back in the mid 2000s, Lost came along and I began paying more attention to what television could be and do. Before then, I only ever remember movies grabbing the public consciousness with high production values and quality writing.
Lost perhaps is not an amazing example as the quality of plot and suspense somewhat declined (although I still love it). But that was a turning point in my consumption of media and i'll never forget that tv show quality definitely increased following it, or at least my perception of it.
I was late to HBO shows so didn't watch The Wire or Oz until later, so obviously there were quality shows earlier.
Are there any shows that stand out to you in your experience that made you think, "Hang on, how did I not know tv shows cohld be this good?"
