What is up with the hate boner Reddit has for this show? There was clearly a great deal of work and care put into it, and while I understand it may take a few liberties with the source material, isn’t that what adaptations are for?

I found it to be a very enjoyable show, particularly in the second half - the first few episodes were admittedly somewhat slow. But again, I don’t think any of the flaws I noticed outweighed the grandeur and spectacle of the project, let alone justifying the outrage it seems to inspire on Reddit.

Would welcome anyone who can help me understand / change my mind.

EDIT: Seeing some quality posts made by people who genuinely cared to weigh in - particularly around the writing and on how I may have understated the level of creative liberties taken. However, also seeing an inundation of gatekeeping neckbeards calling me an idiot for not having an encyclopedic knowledge of Tolkien’s works. So I’m leaning towards Reddit just being biased.
