I had time to binge the show for the first time these are my observations.
-The plot is basically a Cowboys wet dream. Having the biggest ranch there is, Boning the hot Governor, hanging people for stealing horses, punching people brutaly in the face for fun or "straighten them out" without anyone ever even loosing a teeth and of course getting away with everything and of course all you have to do to get every woman is to become a cowboy.
-The characters are extremely cheesy and unsympathetic. Especially Rip and Beth. The one is a potty-mouthed drunkard who is at the same time supposed to be a genius who foils any plan against the ranch there is, with basically just talking crap. And Rip seriously thinks he is the good guy, while basically killing everyone who doesn't want to be part of their bandit gang. I mean making Walker a complicit in the murder of an innocent woman and trying to kill him just because he wants to stay out of trouble and then you still want this guy to have a lead role in the show and make the audience feel sympathy for him? These two are your leads for the show?! Seriously?!
-Turning Kayce into a war hero out of hot air. Despite him apparently being his mother and fathers favorite child, he is supposed to have left his wife Monica and his kid for the Navy just to earn money, despite him being favorite son of a millionaire rancher who owns the biggest ranch in america and where he had to kill a guy with a gun, in a country where he was not supposed to be in the first place, who was supposedly using his wife as a shield (maybe they were just at home watching tv?!) and despite being a topshot, he even had to kill this guys little daughter for his own protection?! And Kayce is still the victim and good guy here. LOL? Is that what a cowboy thinks a hero story is?! Does it get any cheesier than this? And Kayce can't make two steps without shooting someone.
-Jamie: Turning this guy from possible picture perfect heir to adopted, from a drug addict prostitute who was killed by her husband for cheating on him. And Jamie kills even that guy because Beth blackmails him into it. Funny that Jamie kills everyone else who may bring harm to him but lets Beth blackmail him. Why not kill Beth? And why try to Get John Dutton impeached if he is so afraid of Beths blackmailing's. LOL! I hope Jamie gets the ranch after all, because John Dutton was the one who got his crack addict prostitute mother pregnant in the first place because he was too afraid to abort his illegitimate son. Was there no-one else to adopt Jamie? Why the richest rancher in town has to adopt a crack whores child? Does John Dutton feel guilty for something? Among these characters, Jamie is the sympathic one.
-Every enemy they have introduced so far have failed in everything they tried. In the second season, I already knew that every plan will fail. But regardless they keep building up enemy after enemy as if they are gonna succeed. It is getting lame. You can't take it serious anymore. The peak is of course the assassinations attempt that every Dutton survives, but every attacker dies. Even Jo Dutton's Cancer is not mentioned anymore.
-Kevin Costner plays with his tongue pushing his lips with it in every god damn scene. Once you see it, you can not un-see it. It annoys me taking me completely out of the show, as you literally see him doing this in every scene he is in. It reminds you that he is acting and faking it. Its totally unnatural.
-On the positive side, I like the cowboying scenes, where they just show cowboys tending their business and the nice landscape.
I gave this show a chance, cause I liked Open Range and they have Kevin Costner in it. But the writing and characters are extremely weak. Amazing that this show has such large viewership especially in the woke times we are living in. I mean advocating to rot out Wolfs because they eat your cattle and you loose money?! You really see that the show is written by a Cowboy who applies his views and morals onto the characters. Too bad. This show has so much potential, but its only a good cash grab for Kostner.
