Family Guy utilizes the well-known strategy of taking a joke and just stretching it out for 20+ seconds, such as Peter wincing in pain over a skinned knee. Most generally I've heard criticism for this style of joke, but it keeps popping up so there must be something to it.

Recently, the joke in Peacemaker where he was listing off all the people they could have framed other than his dad was not too bad. It wasn't that great in the moment, but then after they continued it even longer in the post-credits segment I actually started laughing.

Can anyone think of a case where using this format of joke landed well for you?
