Answers so far have all been historical, though I'd suggest the future has some good ones too (the expanse). But I'm struggling to find examples of fully pitched contemporary wars. I can think of some really cool military style opps scenes but no full fledged army on army, multi battle, out and out "wars"

I guess the new sas rogue heros qualifies

There’s absolutely no good reason not to tell me when the timeline switches, though. It doesn’t have to be huge, I don’t need text on the screen or anything, but at least a woosh like on Lost or something. It’s frustrating to have to be like “oh okay which set of people are we following now?” after every cut.

Well yeah, have you not watched much South Park?

For example, Cartman is a complete asshole racist bigot douchebag and he says a lot of fucked up stuff.

You know what the difference is? The other characters call him out for it, and Cartman looks like a complete monster most of the time.

That's the difference.

Thank you, I guess I did misremember. But that’s a great explanation and insight. A demonstration of yet another way Sam objectifies people, and also a reason for Dr Strauss to be targeted at all. And I appreciate that reference to being a “pet,” that line in the show was haunting
