I stopped at episode 3 for the same reason you mentioned, but people who are watching it are saying it gets better after episode 5

Regarding Firefly, I also really liked Kaylee and Simon. I think Jewel Staite said had the show continued, she would’ve loved to see the pair get married and have a baby.

The real brains in the room made the call bc although they’re cheating romance was unsavory, this was one of many for TJ and beyond the cringey tension it would create on-air, they are dodging the bullet of the inevitable meltdown or the next cheating episode that makes everyone look stupid for keeping them on. Cheaters are gonna cheat end of story

I personally wasn't a fan of it. There isn't a specific reason, it's just that the characters weren't compelling enough for me and there wasn't anything that hooked me in, and there should have been since there were plenty of mysteries in it. The story definitely picks up toward the end though

Funny I just started watching episode one last night. I watched it just to have some background sound when I played on my phone. But it ended up being so intriguing I am going to re-watch it undistracted.

The book seems really unadaptable into anything that isn’t boring and to make it more presentable to western audiences is gonna be hard as hell. It’s set in China and very culturally Chinese
Plus like 90% of the story is a group of people in a room talking about technical stuff. Then they move to a different room and do the same, then a third room, then back to the first room. Like literally, that’s the story.
Or to put it in comparison. It’s like if Fellowship of the Ring was 90% set in Rivendell just like talking about what they might do.

Personally I liked it at first, and hated it by the end. I expected a survival story with supernatural elements, like Lord of the Flies but with girls. Seemed like a cool premise.
Instead it’s basically a soap opera in the woods. It’s so unrealistic it ruined everything for me. The girls always find food exactly when they need it, they always have their hair and makeup done, they always have clean clothes, they focus on throwing a party instead of do anything to get rescued. No illness, no poison food, no bugs, no predators or wildlife until they need to kill something to eat, then animals just magically appear. There is no survival element to it at ALL. They act like bored girls at summer camp instead of plane crash survivors.
Even Lost made it feel like the characters actually had to survive while still balancing the supernatural elements.
If you don’t like it now, it only gets worse.

4th series is weakest in terms of realism, still a league over other shows tho

Didn’t even know there was this. I know there’s a nextflix one coming out.
Anyways. The book is really really slow. It’s also very Chinese, and China of like the 60s-80s so it’s pretty awkward.

Love Jason Siegel and his whole "emotionally traumatized guy finding the good in life" schtick. Definitely gonna stay on this one.
