German here: it was about as big as "Scrubs" (...was in the US), but less big than "How I met your Mother" - so just a little more successful or popular than in the US.

"ALF" and "Married with Children" were like that in Germany too, and I think to similar audiences.

so: it's absolutely true. but please don't think we all adore Kevin James, lol. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff

Then just say they were fucking fired. Tom wasn't canceled by McDonald's for making derogatory comments. He was fired. Larry wasn't canceled from his accounting job for having sex with his subordinate, he was fired. Why do rich people get canceled and poor people get fired? Roseanne was FIRED from her job for being a racist, she wasn't canceled.

Star Wars the Clone Wars (the 3d series). The show started as a Jedi hack and slash with a few bits of Yoda life wisdom, droid misadventures and the odd galactic trade federation politics.

It matured into a series of jedi turning human soldiers against each other due to racism (speciesism?), A Jedi having to bury her entire battalion in a mass grave after Order 66 and one of the most poignant shots in all Star Wars history with Vader in the very last scene of the series.

From a literal sense, the show started in 2008 and with the final season dropping in 2020 after a 6 year hiatus due to the Disney acquisition, the characters in the show grew up and were given newer models to coincide with Anakin's appearance in Revenge of the Sith so the show also 'grew' up with its audience in a way.

CSI, where they discuss and research some highly weird and unusual murder methods. They had an on-call medical examiner to help with research and to determine if it was possible. In fact, the assistant medical examiner was played by the show's main consultant because they liked him and offered him the role as a good way to keep him on-set.

Everything on the show is plausible and fatal - even the ludicrously overpowered gun that shoots a hundred bullets at once to liquify the victim in Miami. That's a real gun design.

Doctor Who was made to fill a 30 minute time slot to teach kids about science and history, that’s why the first two companions to join the Tardis were teachers from those subjects. But ultimately the show became something that can be enjoyed by an audience of all ages, it’s now seen as a family show instead of just a kids show.

The Sopranos. Tony is already the boss in The Pilot, while the next episode introduces Jackie as the Boss and Tony is just a capo.

David Chase said he didn't think the show was going to get picked up and basically was planning to take what footage he'd had and make a movie out of it.

In Breaking Bad, Tyrus Kitt was stated to be a new hire for Gus' group who was assigned to monitor Walt after Victor's death. This made it seem like he was rather green to Gus' organisation.

This was changed in Better Call Saul, where it's revealed that he was working for Gus for years and was good friends with Victor. This changed the dynamic in the original show, where his frosty attitude towards Walt and Jesse is now due to his suspecting they had something to do with his death and blaming them for it.

Also in Breaking Bad, Saul's legal degree says he graduated from University of American Samoa in 1984, while in Better Call Saul, it's stated that Jimmy only became a lawyer relatively recently in the era where cellphones were already rather common. This would meant that the earlier degree is definitely fake... helped by the fact that you need to be a legal resident of American Samoa in order to be admitted to that university.

Yes that is what being canceled should mean. Never being heard from again. If you want to use it to replace terms like fired, terminated, let go, or whatever job dismissal term that's on you. It's just become a term that means some rich person had consequences to their actions like when a normal person gets fired.
