The FCC is outdated and obsolete in the modern times we are in. Tv and radio have been dead for years. They need to be dissolved (networks). People need to stop clinging to old models that was used to control and manipulate our perceptions of the world around us. The FCC cant wait to try and Regulate the internet to save us all.

It is International Assassin, and I'm right there with you. In a vacuum, it's probably my favorite episode of TV. It's so damn emotional, creative, brilliantly paced, and makes you care about characters that have only existed in the space of that episode.

I'd kill to experience The Leftovers for the first time again. IYKYK.

The MCU didn't make a movie about a nonwhite protagonist until Black Panther (movie #18) or about a woman until Captain Marvel (movie #21) for the same misconception. Turns out those demographics didn't buy as many superhero toys because there were barely any that they could see themselves in.

I guess Ant-Man and the Wasp predates Captain Marvel with its woman co-lead but I personally feel like Ant-Man is still the main character of that film.

Been a while since I have seen the first two seasons, but some points I don't agree. Like Kendall's children do come back as a story point as he really wants to find their gift at his birthday. They don't appear on screen most probably due to aging.

As for Logan's "dementia". The story makes it unclear whether he is mentally declining or not. The entire setup of the show leans on the old man getting too old. And the inconsistent signs makes it a tougher argument for the family to lean on.

And the concept of the Doctor regenerating and changing personalities was just a quick excuse to explain why they changed the actor who plays the Doctor from William Hartnell to Patrick Troughton. Eventually this led to casting Tenant and Smith who appealed so much to younger audiences and women that the franchise became a global phenomenon... at least, moreso.

I don't see it as a spiritual successor any more than any other post apocalyptic show. The Last of Us (based on the game and the show so far) is pretty much devoid of the characteristics that defined The Leftovers like the complete mystery/lack of interest in solving that mystery, the high concept storytelling, the focus on the existential angst of grief rather than processing it and moving on etc.

While it feels like blasphemy at this point, The Last of Us has way more in common with The Walking Dead than The Leftovers. The Last of Us is likely to be a Game of Thrones level HBO mega hit while The Leftovers was a specific critical darling with a devoted but modest fandom, and there's a reason for that.

TLDR: TLOU wouldn't make "International Assassin."
