Can someone ELI5 the logic behind shelving all these shows/seasons that have already been produced?

The Batgirl and Scoob stuff (obligatory Fuck Zaslov) makes sense (kinda) because there was a tax benefit due to the merger. But now all these other networks are starting to do the same thing.

Why spend Millions of dollars making a season of television and not air it? Like, 95% of the cost has already happened.

I avoided this because Lost was such a let down. I generally don't like mystery boxes and it sounds like 18 hours into it and you still aren't getting any answers. Like lost. Some of the shit will never make sense or be answered I would fear, and that has kept me from watching this show.

SO, how much like lost is this mystery box show?

I didn't like S11 as much as TLoU (so far). I feel like it could have been as good if they hadn't put so much of a focus on >!the post-pandemic appeal of theatre, and the prophet's inane storyline !<It seemed like they were pandering to "I am very smart" critic types over regular people who just want a story to make sense and be relatable without layers of symbolism and references that only people who really like theatre would care about it modern times.

I get that Shakespeare has universal appeal, I just don't think >!everyone would care that much about acting and deconstructing Shakespeare in a post-pandemic resource-scarce society.!<

Which isn't to say there wasn't beauty in that, just that it made it less believable and realistic

I totally agree with this but I also think the short series model is often being used in the wrong places. Some shows will meander on for way too long while other series are too good for, or too rushed with, the new normal of 10 episode seasons. An example: I'm really enjoying How I Met Your Father being a prime target for it. 10 episodes in the first season was great to test the water and make sure the story was viable and the group had chemistry. Now that season 2 is airing, I'd love to have a few longer seasons while still having a target of only 3 or 4 seasons to keep the story tight.
