Homeland was good for a few seasons, then it just started going in circles.

Californication was a good show with some fun moments, that was completely ruined by it’s ending after 2 very poor seasons.

Boardwalk Empire was a truly amazing show for 2-3 seasons, then a steep drop in quality.

Weeds was an alright…

I didn’t start this comment thinking there was a pattern, but holy shit. Does this hold true for every Showtime title? Do they just not know when to end shit?

Dexter was a great show for the start of it’s run, only to be ruined by a truly aweful ending after 2 very poor seasons.

Burke Devlin in "Dark Shadows". Mitch Ryan's drinking addiction got him fired but he was perfect as Burke. The guy they recasted as Burke just didn't have much of a personality.

Not a popular opinion, but I don't like killing/putting a character off screen just because the actor/actress screwed up something off show. Recasting gives another actor/actress a shot at depicting a character their way. Of course my example above didn't pay off. I think it worked on "Bewitched" though.

Not sure about "fresh" as it's very similar to Columbo, a series from the 70's and 80's.

It has a similar formula, where we see the murder first. Then Columbo arrives on the scene and figures out not only the murder but the motive behind it.

Peter Falk was such a delight in it, too. No super powers, he just acted folksy and scatterbrained in order for people to underestimate him (which they always did). It was a LOT of fun.

Yes but that doesn’t mean it didn’t want people to speculate or have a general interest just that it shouldn’t ruin your enjoyment for not getting a definitive answer. You can still “ask” and “wonder” and people on the show have even talked about what they believed actually happened. Again the whole “let the mystery be” is about being ok without an answer not having an opinion or a take on it.
