then you should remember the broadcast television prime time hours.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_time

Prime time or the peak time is the block of broadcast programming taking place during the middle of the evening for a television show. It is mostly targeted towards adults (and sometimes families). It is used by the major television networks to broadcast their season's nightly programming. The term prime time is often defined in terms of a fixed time period—for example (in the United States), from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (Eastern and Pacific Time) or 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m

I think to maximize the number of people from the west cost that can watch right away. If they made it 8, it might be better for east coast who have early bed times but then west coast will be grumping that they aren't home from work and ready to watch a show at 5pm.

On the other hand, them being grumpy for a bit is better than making you wait until the following day to watch something.

I have thought since the very first episode that it was good and worth my time. I never went into with expectations. I am not one to call something woke, because that is idiotic. I have enjoyed it for what it is.

But I am also one that doesn't pay attention to the quality of the writing or any that critic stuff. I take any show or movie for what it presents itself to be, without preconceived notions.

Oh and apparently I need clarify if I have watched it.. Yes I am up to 9, watching the last one later on tonight.

Yeah you're probably right. There's certainly a brigade of people that are whining as a part of their weekly "The Wokes are Ruining America" segment, eg the race swapping, fred characterization. There's also been a similar amount of leftist complaints about the show, eg the #metoo joke, etc. The 30 minute long Youtube review industry profited from Velma.

I just don't think any of the groups would have cared (or even noticed) were it not tied to the Scooby Doo franchise.

Little Demon is another recent adult animation with similar crass humor that tries a bit too hard (despite a promising premise and cast). It's not great, but no one really cares. Yes, some portion def found it funny, but other viewers just quietly dip after episode 1 or 2. Thats how I imagine Velma would have turned out were it not for the Scooby Doo association

It's not a matter of culture wars.

The reaction would not be this strong if this was some generic adult animated mystery show with no association to Scooby Doo. There are multiple mean spirited mediocre adult cartoons created every year that no one pays attention to.

Expectations are simply higher when you try to extend an existing franchise, especially when you try to subvert/diverge from the original like Velma tried.

Studio execs have been pushing more and more for shows to tie into existing franchises (to reduce risk of a flop), and it starts to add up for a good chunk of people.

I watched all ten episodes because I wanted to really see how bad it was and I thought it was pretty bad. The plot was pretty bad, even by Scooby-Doo standards. I think Velma as a character is wayyyyy too shitty to really want to succeed. And Norville is also pretty poorly characterized and is just sort of annoying. I didn't mind Daphne and Fred though. I think they're VAs really helped their characterization. Glenn Howerton just plays a privileged white boy too well. But yeah as a whole I think it was a miss with humor that will make it age horribly.

I think there are enough books and documentaries that have the truth. It's not the responsibility of Craig Mazin, who's making a show for "entertainment", to keep to every fact. It's not his fault if people don't read the books that tell the truth. He talks about them on the website, in interviews and on the podcast

It wasnt that bad just like every other show the internet hates. Its main problem has nothing to do with the jokes and everything to do with the fact that injust dontncare abput the mystery of her mom amd the murders.

Other than that if ypu dont understand that this has nothong to do with scooby doo then Im sorry but you are dumb. Its a show about dunking on stereotypes and velma serves that purpose well because the original scobby doo characters are so well known as 1 dimensional.

The animated Harley Quinn show is almost exactly the same. They even play with Batman's character development and nobody has complained with the same amount of vitriol as they have with Velma. I want people to just admit they don't like it because a WOC has been in charge and all the characters are POC. It has nothing to do with it being a "beloved childhood series" or whatever crap, or the vulgarity of the language because other shows who do those exact things don't get shit on like this. They even specifically removed the trope of Shaggy being a stoner BECAUSE they made him a black man and didn't want to perpetuate harmful stereotypes. I'm watching it out of spite of the racist misogynist babies.
