Re Walking Dead, yeah that's when I tuned out, but IMO it went downhill way before that. I think I was just holding out hope up until then.

I'd say Walking Dead officially jumped the shark with the fake Glenn kill where he hid under a dumpster, lol
Heroes would be when HRG was shot in the eye and died. But then, he is casually given Claire's blood, so he comes back to life.

My favourite example has to be Legends of Tomorrow, which in season 3 was dealing with a Big Bad that was a literal demon that spoke to people as a voice in their head.
This demon was voiced by John Noble, and after the main characters heard him for the first time, they identify that he sounds weirdly like the actor John Noble, time travel to New Zealand during the filming of Lord of the Rings, pop into Noble's trailer with a quick page for him to read for "Peter Jackson", so that The Atom could shrink down and fly into one of the demon's follower's ears, play the recording and trick them.
The entire sequence was nuts.

I don’t care, you fucking pedantic loser. OP is just looking for a good show to watch. There’s no other show that’s ‘like’ season one of true detective.
OP should also check out Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The Sinner S1 is pretty good and has kind of a similar vibe. I mean, it's no where near the level of TD S1 but it's in the ballpark I think.

One slightly below the radar show that made be think of True Detective s1 a bit was the 2020 HBO show The Outsider, with ben mendelsohn and jason bateman. Solid, dark show.
