This ran for only 23 episodes but it feels like it was on longer because it was just absolutely stuffed with jokes. Every episode had so many memorable bits so its impact seems bigger. One of my favorite bits was a President James Monroe film in the style of James Bond

and Britannia just got removed from my "to watch" queue.

These tv producers still don't seem to get it. Cancelling a show on a cliffhanger absolutely guts future streaming value. Nobody is going to want to start watching a show that they know ends with "hey audience, fuck you for watching".

The solution is not just easy, it's trivial. Don't write goddamn cliffhanger season finales. it's literally that easy. Or, if you literally don't know how to not do that because your writers are pretentious hacks, then commit to at least one wrap up episode.

Or just turn your entire production into a sunk cost and write it all off, whatever I dont' care. But when you wonder "why doesnt' our amazing new show get more viewers?" THIS is why. people are waiting to see if you fuck it up before investing their time in it

A lot of people claim that it was "the times", wich is a pretty lame excuse in my opinion. Nonetheless, I recently rewatched Golden Girls. Well, apparently it was possible in the 80s to be fun and not discriminate against minorities 🤷‍♀️ AND have a full older cast, which makes "the times" excuse even lamer for other shows.

What's wrong with an all white cast? I never complained when the Cosby Show, Martin or Family Matters had all black casts. I loved those shows and was a huge fan. Why is it offensive when there's a white cast? It's just a strong indicator of who the REAL racists are.

I think Netflix making it (and most of their new shows) the first thing you see signing in for a while after launch, before you get to programs you've got on your list or are currently watching, really helps increase viewership for fun, "generic" shows like The Night Agent where you see it and go "ooh, spy thriller!" It doesn't work as well for more niche genre fare, but something with broad appeal like The Night Agent is going to have tons tuning in that wouldn't otherwise, because they didn't know it existed.

I opened the whole article hoping I could defend her and that maybe she was just making a point about the cultural climate but not necessarily complaining about it. But many of her quotes are very explicitly complaining about it.

This one stood out also:

“[In the past] you could joke about a bigot and have a laugh — that was hysterical. And it was about educating people on how ridiculous people were. And now we’re not allowed to do that.”

You are definitely allowed to do this and there are jokes like this all the time. What is she on about?
