Just want to put it out there that the standard for tv/movie moms is SO much higher than for tv/movie dads. If Dad never cooks meals no one notices. If he forget's his child's birthday it's bad but not damning. Sometimes it's even played off as charming, in a doofy forgetful dad kind of way. If Dad cooks meals sometimes and gets his kid a thoughtful birthday on their birthday - automatically Dad of the year. For tv/movie moms, this is the bare minimum. It should be the bare minimum for any parent, but alas....

That said...

Lucille Bluth of Arrested Development

Stepmom from Fleabag (if she even counts as a mother...I don't think she really does)

Marianne's mom in Normal People

Eleanor and Tahani's moms in The Good Place...although we get to see both moms grow into better people...

A lot of main characters in shonen are the least interesting characters in their shows, almost by definition.

A lot of them have no real character flaws, to the extent that other characters improve upon themselves just by being around them. Further, they often have special destinies and origins, making their accomplishments feel unearned.

It feels like the Bo Katan show. I didn't watch Clone Wars and nothing she's done in the Mandalorian has made me even remotely interested in her character.

Mando himself has no purpose, unlike the previous two seasons (and season 2 was just a bunch of cameos and backdoor pilots). Bathing in the waters of Mandalore was wrapped up in the second episode. What's his goal now?

Episode 4 was the best one (saving the Foundling from the nest) and even that didn't contribute anything to the overall plot. I guess that one Mandlorian (Visla? The big guy with the laser minigun) is less of a jerk but that's really it. Pedro Pascal's performance feels phoned in and it's sad how obvious it is when something is shot using The Volume; about 100 Mandalorians training in the same spot when they have a huge cliffside area to do it in is a dead giveaway. And I'm normally not the best at noticing that kind of thing.

Aside from Mandos signature cringy or dragging sequence at least once per an episode, I feel like it's improved a lot this season on overall tone, acting direction, and especially production. It's also tapping into that connective tissue from those shows you liked and seems like it will expand on it in a way that could mitigate some of the damage from the Sequels.

Andor instantly shot up to one of my favorite shows in general and I think some of this season of Mando and The Bad Batch haven't been at odds with it's tone and world building, even if they both have sort of different vibes.

Obi Wan and Book of Boba Fett were huge letdowns for me though.
