Try posting in r/legaladvice ? Personally if they didn’t call cops directly to the scene and file a report while still there I’d assume you’re fine, but I’m not a lawyer. Were there witnesses and/or cameras?

Yeah you made a mistake punching the dude, try to learn from it and don’t repeat that action. If nothing happens take it as a blessing and remember all the stress and guilt you feel right now the next time road rage threatens to make you lose control.

A license plate doesn’t give much info unless you have a lawyer/cop with special access to databases. Even with a VIN you can’t really get much info on the vehicle owner.

Check your mail pretty actively the next few days just on the off chance you get served any court papers.

These are wildly aggressive and violent reactions to mild inconveniences.

You didn't just fuck up. You have serious emotional issues that you need to step up and start handling; if not for yourself then for your family.

As someone who had to grow up with a person who would get aggressive over minor things like this, there are no excuses for it. It's embarrassing, and terrifying.

So you were too afraid to deck the redneck at the gas station, but had all the courage in the world at a family place with your kids and wife relying on you to be an adult and make it in so they could enjoy the trip

Yeah, ultimately this is an ego-balancing act

You should've just been a man with the redneck at the gas station instead of saving it up at a family venue to replenish your fragile masculinity

You're not an idiot. Accidents happen especially if you are unfimiliar with gas stoves. Your family realized this. Just double check and triple check like next time. I always do whenever using gas cause I have that fear. I am even getting up after the gas is turned off to just make sure. Get some portable detecters if you can
