This is just incomprehensibly dumb. You decided on a gag gift that is overly intimate (thus kinda awkward), most likely only usable by half your family members and also incredibly expensive. For that money you could actually have bought something really nice! A gag gift should be something cheap and silly, played for laughs, then rapidly switched out for a real gift. You joke didn't land and you had no real backup.

You didn't fuck up. You felt emotions. It's okay to feel and express emotions.

I agree with others who suggested speaking with a therapist to help you work through and process your emotions. I'm sorry for what happened to you. :(

Yes it happens to me too. Random wave of sadness. I cry for like a few seconds and then I'm ok. Glad that there is someone there for you who notices things.❤️❤️

I totally think this is legit. My wife's family used to play this stupid game for the family Christmas party. FOR YEARS. No matter what the worst gift was, it was ALWAYS passed away given the chance.

Family members would absolutely give it back to your brother because he was so clearly uncomfortable with it.

As for your role in this debacle, that is totally on you. But I think it is both real, and funny as fuck!

Last year, I put my 1yo and 4 yo to bed. Wife and I work opposing shifts. She's nights and weekends and I work weekdays. Finally got both kids in bed. It's quiet for a hood 30 minutes. I think im safe, I go downstairs to play on my computer. 10 minutes into playing I hear a noise upstairs. I go to check it out. My 4yo went into my bathroom, opened a container of vicks vapor rub and smeared it all over the walls counter mirror and ceiling and then unscrewed all of the light bulbs from the vanity. Took me over 3 hours to get everything cleaned up. I did not get to play my video games that night. I hope you and your kids are doing better.

I have a really good friend that suffered from PTSD stemming from early childhood trauma. If you're interested look into EMDR or RET therapy, it helped them with immensely reduced triggers and random PTSD episodes.
