As a dude with giant hands. I hate five pin.

But my SO is tiny so they hate 10 pin. We need 7 pin.

Fond memories of playing 5 pin as a child on the airbase. Thanks.

You know they have different weight bowling balls? Also, having a bowling ball cut to your hand size makes a huge difference. People that struggle to control 14lb house balls may have no problem using a 26lb personal ball

Yes, but don't bowl much - just for fun with a few friends 1 or 2 twice a year. When we last went, there were no smaller - lighter 10 pin bowling balls in our lanes or nearby. We asked the staff and they just said to look for them. But we didn't want to take them from others that were already using them for their kids.

So we booked 5 pin! Everyone had fun!

Played 5 pin for the first time this winter. My gf in Canada was surprised to hear that we don't have it at all in the states. It's a lot of fun, I prefer it to 10 pin

We only had five pin growing up. When I first saw a ball with finger holes like on the TV, I cried.

That sounds delightful. The perfect activity to do while eating poutine and watching hockey with the tragically hip playing in the background.

Haven’t played 5 pin in a minute. They started disappearing around here. I’ll have to look up what’s left

No matter where in the world I wish they put things to protect the sides of the alleys and the ceiling. Im so clumsy I often get all my strikes in another alley than mine

Definitely a standard kids birthday party when I grew up. Plus even as an adult you feel like a big man when you throw because the balls weigh like 3 lbs

TIL Canadians bowl with 5 pins and small balls that have no holes

I'm glad you capitalized it so that I looked up that Beaver Tails are pastries. I might have got it in my head to hunt a beaver if I thought that their tails are as good as poutine =p

Kind of makes sense. Kind of like how 9 pin is only prevalent in countries that are German, were repeatedly invaded by Germany, or were colonized... Quite probably from people fleeing invasions from Germany.

5 pin is too hard. They should keep it in Canada. Frankly bowling in general should be left to Canadians like curling. It's as interesting as watching grass grow.

I've done a lot of bowling in my life but (apart from Wii Sports) only ever 5 pin or candle pin. I don't know if I'll ever get to try ten pin but it would be bizarre.

Place I worked at had a bowling alley and the computer could be set to 9, 8 and 7 pin along with two other games like tic tac toe or something. I’d inquire at your local alley, it’s just a setting on the computer in my case. Good luck :)

TIL: This

It seems like if it a system has this option that a clever alley operator could exploit this to add games to bring in casuals to try other bowling games, and hard-core fans of the other versions. I might actually bowl or bowl longer if we could play more than one version of bowling.
