TIL of Gilles Garnier, a french recluse living in a forest in France. Due to his lifestyle he had trouble finding food so he began hunting children and eating them raw, like an animal. People initialy thought the attacks were done by a werewolf, so he was convicted of lycanthropy and witchcraft

TIL: Jesse Livermoore pioneered day trading. His shorts for the 1906 SF earthquake and the 1929 crash are considered legendary. He grew up poor, but at 14 worked as a board boy at a stock firm and started gambling. He would consistently become rich or bankrupt, and he died with millions in debt.

TIL Germs and Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear appears as one of the dancers in Prince's 1985 video for "Raspberry Beret." TIL when Dan Shechtman discovered quasiperiodic crystals, he was widely ridiculed. Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling said of the discovery, "There is no such thing as quasicrystals, only quasi-scientists." Shechtman would later win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery.

TIL that Point Roberts, Washington is a pene-exclave of Washington just south of Vancouver, Canada. It is attached to Canada by land but separated from the USA. It can only be reached from the USA by sea, air, or by driving 25 miles through Canada and then into Point Roberts, crossing two borders.

TIL: In 2012, Canadian Justin Williams assaulted and stabbed his neighbor for coming over tell him to stop yelling over a video game (World of Warcraft), he replied "it's not a game, it's my life" then grabbed and stabbed his neighbor. The neighbor lived, but now has a scar in his chest.

TIL Warren Buffett bought Berkshire Hathaway purely out of spite. In the 60s it was a failing textiles company which he wanted to sell his stake in. When its president lowballed him, he bought the whole company just to fire him. In 2010, he said it was the biggest investment mistake he ever made.

TIL At the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, Missouri, an angry mob burned down an arena and rioted following the last minute cancelation of a bullfight. Manuel Cervera Prieto was later murdered over lack of payment by fellow bullfighter Carleton Bass.
