Captain America #1 came out in March 1941.
By December 1941 it was Marvel's #1 selling franchise. (Marvel was called Timely Comics back then, but it's the same company)
Whether he was "famous" or not is subject to the same niche problems people face today. Can you name the number one comic book writer of 2022-23?

Reply to TIL that due to "Subjective Age" most children and adolescents feel older than they really are. But this switches at around 25. By age 30, around 70% of people feel younger than they really are, with the discrepancy between actual age and subjective age growing over time. by AspireAgain
I wonder how this is affected by cultural or economic factors.

Men who dress up as women to dance for kids is the same as women wearing pants, which no one is trying to make illegal. Those are both normal things, exactly the same thing in fact

Pretty sure that was 5 or 6 pieces even though it was called quartering. Easy enough to cut off the arms and legs, head is a bit more work. It is a lot of work to cut a body into 4 even moderately symmetrical pieces.

I must clarify that the term "Nanga Parbat" finds its roots in the Punjabi (ancient prakrit & Sansikrat) language. Additionally, it is important to note that Urdu is just Hindi which is heavily influenced by Persian, and thus has strong connections to both Hindi and Punjabi, which are both members of the Indo-European language family. These two languages share a rich history and a significant amount of common vocabulary

So you're saying Tarantino should have made The Bear Jew be Jack Kirby?

No twerking going on either.
Edit: They're talking about Michael Phelps winning an Olympic gold medal "for twerking" and you think this is real? lmao

Coincidentally, one of the charges Joan of Arc was found guilty of, and which led to her being burned at the stake, was “dressing in men’s clothing”

Yeah. Like the guy that invented Doritos Locos Tacos for Taco Bell. They gave him full credit. No money, but full credit. He died of brain cancer and Taco Bell donated only $1,000 to his cancer fund.

When we moved to Georgia from up north, my mom made the mistake of wearing pants to a southern Baptist church. Pants were how you didn’t freeze your ass off up north. Apparently not the same rational down south. It was the late seventies, so didn’t expect this would be an issue - let’s just say that church didn’t work out.

The reconnaissance plane then has to fly back to the UK, have the film unloaded from the rather bulky cameras, develop the film, turn it over to analysts, have the analysts create maps, get those maps across the English Channel by plane or boat, and get that map to the front lines. By which time the unit that wanted the map has already taken that bit of ground and moved on.
Kirby’s maps would be used within a day of their creation. If you want maps that fast of a particular tactical area, you use some guy on the ground, not aircraft. Photo-reconnaissance aircraft were used for grander strategic reconnaissance duties, including tracking German ships and factory outputs.

Yep. That’s the tactic they’re all using — passing a law that bans a narrowly defined set of behaviours, knowing they have the power to redefine a single word used in the bill-now-law to have sweeping social policing powers targeting anyone and anything that doesn’t conform to their desires.
In Tennessee, if this bill is signed into law (and the Republican governor has said he intends to sign it into law), all it would take is for a married lesbian couple (where one of them is butch - wearing pants or having short hair) to kiss in public — and puritanical morality police could arrest and charge them.
With a felony.
Even if no kids see them.
Because the law specifies that the “performance” happen where children could see them.
It outlaws Pride parades. It outlaws men with long hair. It outlaws gay men wearing makeup. It outlaws everything except what they decide it doesn’t outlaw.
