Well, I guess even a blind-deaf person can have flawed beliefs...but at least the Akita is cute.

Yes, minimizing the fact that disabled people can advocate for themselves is ableist.

Maybe that was why she was an advocate?
She didn’t think someone should have to live through the struggles and hardships she did.

The dyke actually cuts the north from the south, allowing the water from the river to be held instead of flowing south and evaporating.
That article is mad. The Kazakhs are back fishing freshwater fish whilst the Uzbeks are reluctant to do anything similar because of their success farming cotton. To stop the continued waste of water, which spills over the top of the dyke, the Kazakhs want to increase the height of the dyke by 4m.

She also only ever spoke with her handler and after they died never spoke again and no one else has ever recreated her system of communication as well as she happened to also share all the same opinions as her handler when it came to communism, eugenics, and feminism.

American here, I have never seen it spelled with an "i", only with the "y".

can't read the article, pops up with a "sign up for a bcc account" that I can't close out of in any way. The X doesnt close it, neither does "remind me later." But the thought of someone building a 12km lesbian in the middle of the aral sea like that other dude in the comments mentioned is making me laugh super hard.

Mate there are so far a total of zero comments thinking that the Kazakhs built a 12km long lesbian in the Aral sea to preserve it, and a total of 117 words that you've spent quoting the dictionary, quit huffing your own farts.

Yup. And usually the victims of it don’t support it. Helen Keller was a very clear cut candidate for it.

In the 1900’s almost every single westernized country implemented eugenics to some extent
Interestingly, countries like Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, etc actually sterilized a large % of their handicapped population without any real backlash or condemnation. They did a really good job of covering this part of their history up. Many of these countries didn’t even ban forced sterilization until the 1970s

I'm just commenting about the spelling because of North Americans making dyke jokes whenever this spelling is encountered by them online:
In American and Canadian English, dike is the preferred spelling of the noun referring to (1) an embankment used to prevent floods, and (2) a low wall dividing lands. Dyke is the preferred spelling in all other main varieties of English.
Dyke is also a (historically [and often] derogatory) slang word referring to a lesbian. While this sense of dyke has been reappropriated and made positive by some, it is still generally considered offensive and should be shunned outside very specific contexts... which is another reason Americans eschew the spelling for the flood embankment protection method.
