TIL Daryl Hall's (of pop duo Hall & Oates) first solo album produced by King Crimson's Robert Fripp was initially shelved by RCA in 1977, leading outraged Hall and Fripp to pass copies of the record to journalists and DJs. Hall's fans started a letter-writing campaign requesting its release.

TIL The largest diamond ever found was the Cullinan Diamond, which was discovered in South Africa in 1905. It weighed 3,106.75 carats (over 1.2 pounds) and was cut into nine separate stones, including the Great Star of Africa, which is the largest clear-cut diamond in the world at 530.2 carats.

TIL that the California St. Francis Dam disaster of 1928, a midnight-hour 120' wave that killed 431 sleeping people and wiped out giant sections of land more than 50 miles west to Ventura, was caused by the dam having been built on a fault zone (in addition to the dam's retention of water).

TIL that Point Roberts, Washington is a pene-exclave of Washington just south of Vancouver, Canada. It is attached to Canada by land but separated from the USA. It can only be reached from the USA by sea, air, or by driving 25 miles through Canada and then into Point Roberts, crossing two borders.
