TIL on March 15, 2011, 51-year-old William Melchert-Dinkel went online under screen names like "Cami" and "Falcongirl" encouraging people to commit suicide. Those who were interested he would instruct them step by step. He admitted to assisting in the deaths of 5 people but was only convicted for 2.

TIL that in a series of experiments in the 1950s, Solomon Asch asked a group of actors and a single test subject what the longest line was in a "vision test". The actors would intentionally answer incorrectly, causing the subject to also answer incorrectly, despite it being very obvious.

TIL That Matt Bissonnette, the former DEVGRU operator who, under the pseudonym Mark Owen, wrote the first book about the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden was forced to turn over the almost $7 million he made from the book because he failed to get the book approved before it was published.

TIL of John R. Baylor the self-proclaimed 'governor' of Arizona who was a Confederate Colonel whose self-appointment was later approved by Jefferson Davis. Baylor gave orders to exterminate the indigenous Apache and when Davis got wind of it he rescinded the orders as well as Baylor's governorship.

TIL the band Yo La Tengo once reenacted the entire "The Chinese Restaurant" episode of "Seinfeld" live. This was part of their 2011 tour where the first half of every show was decided by a wheel of fortune spun by an audience member. Link includes a video of this moment.
