I’m using US Mobile. It use’s Verizon so same coverage. Significantly less expensive.
Before this I used Ting for years but their service became unreliable after being sold to Dish Network. I think Ting uses T-Mobile.

My wife and I are moving to Vermont next summer, and she’s from Peachtree City… what a small world! We were just back in Georgia to visit her family for Christmas. That place blows. Where we live right now in NC (suburban Winston-Salem) is ranked one of the least walkable urban areas in the entire US, so not much better. This whole corner of the country is humid, gross, expensive, busy and miserable.
I’m from northern Michigan so a lot of Vermont is pretty much just a better version of where I grew up. We visited & house-hunted in central VT a few months ago and can’t wait to make the move. Truly planning & readying ourselves to embrace an old house, a tiny town, and the rural Vermonter way of living.

It’s cold here. Really cold. For like 6 months of the year.

There’s none in broward/miami. Tampa their definitely is ! Just small misquotes. The bugs outside during the summer in Vermont were ridiculous like being outside is uncomfortable especially the black flies . For me Florida >Vermont not even close but that’s me ! If it’s perfect for you you’ll love the solitude and quite But if you like ethnic food and culture better stay in Florida

Reply to Why do so many people from out of state think that tire chains are the answer? by SnooMaps1313
Tire chains are great in areas where they occasionally get deep snow (or you have to occasionally pass through areas with deep snow) but most of the winter the roads are fine and so winter tires would just get eaten up by driving on bare, warm pavement. Here, our roads are potentially shitty all the time from October/November through April. Even the last storm we got a week ago (got 8" of snow after all the rain in my area) took about 5-6 days for the roads to be completely clear again. As in, even with great snow tires I was driving in 4WD 90% of the time.
That said, I've had a few nights unexpectedly driving in freezing rain when I wished I had chains. It's something I keep meaning to buy for those rare "just in case" times. We're getting more freezing rain most years than we ever did 20-30 years ago, and that's when snow tires don't do much but chains would definitely help.

Cool strawman because that’s not what I said, but when you can’t refute it. You could have said, “what about Manchester or Dorset?” and that would have been way easier.

This is an update to include what the trooper is accused of stealing. There was a lot of speculation in the first post about what he might have stolen/been stealing from evidence room.

You can take time if you're sick or want a vacation, just not paid. Boo fucking hoo that a bottom of the barrel job doesn't have full benefits from day 1.

Between Wilmington and Bennington there is a designated “chain up” area, only one I’ve seen in VT.

There are a few places in VT that require chains on trucks, like Searsburg East of Bennington. They even have dedicated chain-up lots at the bottom of the hill.
Years ago, my school bus had chains ⛓️, I don't know if they still use them.
Other than that, I never see them.

This is a great reply, except I have to add a bit of nuance to your comment that “it gets really hot, and not everyone has air conditioning.” Temperatures in the summer have certainly risen here in the past decade and will likely continue to rise, but there is no way someone from Florida is going to think summers are “really hot” here. Perhaps you only meant to say that there a few very warm days here every summer: I would agree with that. And one further thing: heat pumps are likely to take over here in the next ten years and with a heat pump comes air conditioning. that’s just the way they work.

They definitely get more snow up at Donner Pass than anywhere in Vermont. I-80 requires either three-peak snow tires AND AWD/4x4 OR chains on the driver wheels.
That wouldn’t make any sense here, but it fits that situation, which is probably the cause of confusion by flatlanders. Our road conditions are typically either 1) shitty or 2) a bit snowy. Out West, the roads are typically either 1) fine or 2) covered in fresh snow.

Because in the Rockies people use chains. They throw them on when needed and take them off when not. Is that so crazy?

Google Fi is reasonable and uses multiple towers from the major companies for really good coverage.
