Really good advice. Randomization is tough for this kind of thing. The best you can probably do is to preset parameters that would be your ‘ideal’ sample and do your best to capture a sample faithful to that ideal. What you don’t want is to be presenting your final data and spending more time talking about how the confounds influenced your data than the question you were actually asking.

Post on Front Porch Forum as well. You'll get a different demographic than reddit.

The sad thing about a lot of projects is lack of random sampling, so a few additional sources could help you out and try to get some different groups

If you want to hear people speak about what it means to be a “Vermonter”, I would recommend listening to The Full Vermonty Podcast. The first question the hosts ask every guest is, “Are you a Vermonter? What does being a Vermonter mean to you.” It’s a great listen too!

“Once a symbol of a healthy community, the building is now a glaring illustration of what ails Burlington: uncaring property owners, stalled development, rampant homelessness, unchecked vandalism and a growing sense that this beautiful small city has lost a step.”

This is what I don’t get. If Vermonters like this person are majority progressive, then why aren’t y’all happy with progressive policies that got you to this place? “Unchecked vandalism” is unchecked because of DA policy. Just seems like more whining and complaining aka NIMBYism. If you want change then vote accordingly, shops accordingly, or move accordingly to your beliefs, like this 3 wellness membership person can.

Imo Burlington is awesome, has great care for community to include house less and addicts. I’ve lived in a dozen states, countless towns and cities, a few other countries, and this area is doing really really well compared to many others. If I could change anything it’s Act250 and the white landowners who can’t /won’t sell to develop. Change the legislation, you’ll change vermont and keep the youth here. Without it will be more gray crusty VTers talking about “back in my day”

You only need to worry about one thing: building the correct structure the first time.

Solid night coop, no cracks, weasel-proof wire on all outlets, 3 feet per bird minimum, so say 8-12 birds in a coop made on a 4x8 base.

Outside roofed-over day run, hawk/coyote-proof, can be lightweight with very open wire, just make sure it goes down into the ground.

Be faithful about when you let them in/out.

Free-range when the timing is right - when there's enough human activity to keep foxes away, when the sun is out -- hawks will hunt on overcast days when they don't flash a shadow for warning.

There's still going to be a nature-tax to pay, you will lose a few birds to your own learning curve and theirs, but in general you can keep a flock safe and happy, you just have to be realistic.

Adjust this plan to slightly-more-relaxed if you're around more people; add in more precautions like electrified wires at night if you live further out in the boonies. Everybody loves the taste of chicken, and putting your coop ten feet from the puckerbrush is more or less setting out a buffet. :)

But don't let this dissuade you! It's worth it. Chickens are cool. :)

Interesting fact on Wednesday, they filmed it in Romania..... Wednesday was filmed in Romania so that Tim Burton could maintain the gothic and macabre style and tone that he wanted for the show.

Vermont apparently is too cheery, quaint, quintessential (and all those other Martha Stewart terms that she has for it)for Tim Burton's taste.
