So you think because restaurants often fail, the guy you're responding to is probably lying about the boss of the restaurant he works at making a lot of money and not having a clue?

Won't be as much bitching as when they ripped up the whole town and installed 2 traffic lights. I worked retail in town when that was happening and the amount of people bitching about a fucking traffic light was astounding. The same people will complain about gubmint spending on "unnecessary things" while they get into their Ford F350 they use to get back and forth from their house on Union Street to Hannaford's.

Not with your attitude...
Europe is covered in train lines in rural places. It works there and it would work here, but too many people refuse to open their eyes and believe it.

If we subsidized it at the same level we subsidize driving, it would absolutely compete.

Honestly this would be so brilliant. How friggin convenient would it be to just hop on a train between towns.

No. I'm saying the problem of soaring food prices and underpaid workers in the food industry isn't specific to Vermont pizza joints. I'm also saying, therefore, your point that we can either can have overpriced food or underpaid workers - whether in reference to pizza joints in Vermont or anywhere else - is a shitty one that obfuscates the real problem with the economy.

that sounds delicious. but that would be a particular name to give a pizza with certain toppings, not a 'style' of pizza.

A lot of them own small town pizza joints in Vermont?

The tower or the old shelter in Hubbard park, the museum next to the state house, the library (😍😍😍😍), maybe somewhere in the college but I’m not familiar with the buildings, it’s beautiful though. If the library is an option, I’d take that 100000%. How cool.

Totally agree. That is one place where new track would need to be laid down. It would certainly be an engineering challenge, but considering that investments in rail are some of the very best investments society can make in terms of ROI, I think it would be well worth it.

Some of this could tie into the issue that I have to write about constantly for an HVAC company down south. January 1st, the government upgraded to SEER2 ratings, so some older heat pumps and central and mini-split systems are no longer in compliance.
It's making HVAC technicians down there struggle to find parts that meet the new SEER2 ratings, and if they had any remaining stock that isn't in compliance with the new ratings, they can't install anything legally. I don't know how this plays out up here, but I know my client has been heavily focused on pointing out that it's going to be trickier to get some parts for older equipment.

So you're saying either food is affordable, or people who work in the food industry can't be paid a living wage. We can't have both. Meanwhile, the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans own 36 percent of the nation's wealth, and the wealthiest 10% own 75 percent of it.

That Rutland to WRJ line would be one of the biggest developments for the state and (likely) would be a massive boon to both those cities and surrounding areas. That would be one of the few rail lines bridging either sides of the Hudson based lines (and their respective giant communities on either side of the river.)
Otherwise you have to pick your train line down in the city because they diverge from there with only bus service connecting across the Hudson. That tiny piece of track would effectively create a loop with NYC, open E<>W train travel mid way through the state + give the ability to go further into New England or Canada
I'd be ok diverting some of that Fed grant money that Burlington sops up to the Rutland area.

Sometimes it's easier to get forgiveness, than permission. I can't imagine that it'd be a problem. And if you just did it, I bet that no one would have a problem. But if you ask.... then they'll have time to think about it, and then it'll become a problem, even if it isn't.

It's probably too late for this year, but I highly recommend going into a co-op/group for heating oil and propane for the next heating season. I've been doing this for years and lock in in the early summer and then do monthly payments with the propane company.
We reached a point years ago where we were being charged $5.50 a gallon all because we were told our home didn't use enough propane (about 300 gallons a year usage) to justify a lower rate. We were penalized for having a pretty tight home in terms of insulation and having a pellet stove for the very cold weather.
I saw a post about Hilltop Energy and signed up. This year, we're at $2.92 a gallon. It looks like Keith still has oil plans (if you're in an area that's covered) still if you go with open/adjustable rate. Right now the rate is $4.09 a gallon for heating oil.

It would never happen in a million years. Vermont would not add any other lines since it wouldn't make sense economically for the state. Our population is too small to support so many lines, especially when there are much more populated areas in the country without rail coverage.

I didn't know we were having macroeconomics discussion about the fundamentals of our economy, which suck in many ways. My comment was about cause and effect in the current system
