Sorry but I'm not driving 35 minutes to work at a grocery store for 2 months when I can get more sitting on my ass at home.

EDIT: lol go ahead and downvote, excuse me for wanting more money to ya know pay my bills and feed my kids then a grocery store would provide. I make way more than minimum wage, am certified and my employer pays into unemployment along with actively wanting us to go on unemployment so he doesn't have to hire, certify and train a new crew of people every year.

I was just surprised to hear that Brattleboro has a higher tax rate than other communities with similar services.

I get where you're coming from though, people always forget about paying taxes each year.

Taxes are typically higher in higher density areas with more services(to help pay for said services like waster water treatment, library, education etc).

I wish our education system actually educated folk on how our taxes actually work...

OP crossposts many news stories across a number of VT and New England subs. Most of the time it's just a link to the story, with the implication that redditors in that sub should take it and run with some kind of discussion. OP seems like more of a shit-stirrer. Not that I'm any better with my comments, but I don't crosspost stuff in the hopes of creating controversy or getting votes. And I don't re-post stuff that's already been posted 2 or 3 other times and has already been discussed. Please see my comment linked below about the types of people in VT. I think you'll notice where OP fits.

It wouldn't surprise me. I get laid off for a few months in the winter for my job and usually doing the required job search is just apply and forget. Not this year, everyone is requesting interviews. Kind of a pain for me as I have no intention of leaving my good paying job and no one in their right mind is going to hire me for a couple months.

The last thing Vermont needs is more people moving here with their remote jobs. Everywhere is understaffed, yet folks moving here will undoubtedly utilize resources, further impacting the staffing shortages.

I recently heard from my local Post Office that there are 3 open jobs for every 1 Vermonter. I can't find anything online that supports that stat, but I did find a Burlington Free Press article from March 2022 that states, "Vermont had 46,411 job postings per 100,000 people, the highest rate in the nation." Based on my experiences at work and in the community, I feel pretty confident numbers have not improved since then.

Each town sets its own rate for property taxes. When I bought my house, Brattleboro had the highest rate in Vermont. But when you're buying a house you tend to concentrate on the up-front cost, not the annual property taxes, so numbers indicating percentages as tax tend to blur in your head and not have a solid "so this is what it will cost me annually to live here" effect.

Ignoring those numbers can make for a costly choice.

I am torn because i both agree and disagree with your points. I have engaged with this person on other platforms and without any doubt they absolutely have a political bias and agenda. I disagree with saying this stuff has no place here though. I have had more than a few points brought to my attention in .. charged conversations from posts like this far more often than i have in the ones that occur in the field and stream/***spam posts, lol.

Granted the opposing POV's i have encountered did F-all to change my mind but they did show me where many of my fellow Vermonters stand on issues. Again you all would never have revealed that in the kind of posts that you seem to want to cultivate here and i think that would be a dis-service to public discourse.

I understand you made a sub to discuss topics that interest you but you post duplicates or cross post things here which have been discussed here already and you are often a few days later, rehashing discussions that have already happened.

While not a bad thing in and of itself it seems like rather then engage, you a looking to drive a conversation or narrative rather then discuss an event. It seems topics and conversations like that with a blatantly political slant a better suited for the sub you created and less interesting here in a general context.

With that said, I agree that off duty leo need more controls on off duty hours.

I completely understand. I feel the hate strongly as well. Usually I just turn my mirrors upwards or outwards so I can’t see a darn thing, turn up the radio and drive as slow and safe as I want too(in the snow). Knowing the guy riding my ass is seconds away from having a breakdown is the cherry on top. It’s usually a green plate behind me, I always assume it’s a kid in a truck his daddy bought him.
